RIP to Monkee Peter Tork

Sad to read about this.

Like many, I really loved the Monkees.

I was a huge Monkees fan. I was so upset when my mother wouldn’t let me go to one of their concerts when I was 13yo. She thought my friend (14 yo) and I were too young to go (her parents would’ve taken us and picked us up, but not attended the concert).

There goes another part of my childhood. RIP Peter Tork.

Oh, no. I loved the Monkees.

I just hope that Bobby Sherman is taking care of himself. I hate it when my teen idols die…

Sad news.

Cancer sucks!

I feel like I am losing my connection to teen age years… So sad, Peter. RIP.

My sister is 8-9 years older than I am. We never had much of a relationship back then at all, and basically none now. One of the few times we actually did something together with a positive vibe was sitting in front of the TV watchiing The Monkeys. I think I was 7/8 and she a teenager. One of the few good memories I have of her when we lived in the same house.

He was always my favorite…RIP.

:frowning: Still love their music.

Peter was my favorite, too. So sad.

I was Davey Jones fan. We lost him a while ago.

Peter Tork (born in 1942 as Peter Halsten Thorkelson) apparently managed to twice flunk out of Carleton College (almost Class of 1964, I believe) before heading to the Greenwich Village music scene.

Peter grew up in Connecticut and studied French Horn at Carleton (from which his father successfully graduated and later taught Economics at UConn). Musician Stephen Stills reportedly urged Peter to try out for the Monkees, and the rest became history. My first LP album was a Monkees album – it was given to me, not bought, if anyone must know. We have lost a '60s icon today.

Losing my childhood peoples :frowning: .

My first album was also a Monkees album.

Another Peter Tork fan here whose heart is a little sad today. I went to see Mickey Dolenez last year, what an amazing showman. I had no idea how truly talented he was. Loved every moment of the show. Peter Tork and I nearly crossed paths in Santa Monica, CA when I went to work at a restaurant as a singing hostess, and I later became their location accountant. It was a “theme” restaurant, and so many up and coming artists also worked there, Rickie Lee Jones, Severin Browne, Vonda Shepard, Chuck Francour. So many memories and even some stories I’ve been sworn never to tell in mixed company! My D wants me to write a book about my time there. All I can say is “honey, times were different”

Peter was always my favorite, too. When the neighborhood girls would pretend that the Monkees were there boyfriends, I would say “I get Peter!” There usually wasn’t competition, because the other girls would want Davy of Mickey. (Do little girls still pretend that band members are their boyfriends? I hope not!)
