RIP Tom Clancy

[Tom Clancy, author of ?Hunt for Red October? and ?Patriot Games,?dead at 66 - NY Daily News](http://m.nydailynews.com/1.1473782)

66 is too young! RIP, Tom.

“I would have liked to have seen Montana”

a favorite quote that my husband makes all the time…he always talks of running a rabbit farm in Montana as his retirement destination.

I enjoyed the movies. Husband read all the books.

They stated on the radio this morning that he learned a great deal of the submarine stuff by playing video games among other things.

Agree- 66 is way too young!! RIP Tom.

Oh man, so, so sad. His books (all the Jack Ryan series) are books I have read often just to immerse myself in that universe. Where a good man can just get things done, you know? That is a hero that I enjoy.

RIP, Tom.

One ping only!

a friend is joking on FB that he wonders if the CIA was behind this!

RIP - loved his books

Terrible news. Great writer.

I texted my H and S when I heard the news, as they always enjoyed TC’s books.

I wasn’t a fan. I don’t like how he “wrote” his female characters. They were either Madonna or whore, no in-between. But, still, so young … May he RIP.

66 and a smoker- see one of the photos in the article.

What did he die of?

One obit said he died after “a brief illness”. No idea what it was.

It’s weird the cause of death is left out in the article. he is too young to die of old age.

Yes, I read several articles, but cause was never mentioned. None of my business, of course, but 66 seemed so young…

I’d guess it had something to do with his alcoholism.

Oh, did he have an alcohol problem? I didn’t know that.

If he did, and if it played a role in his death, I hope it will be made public. I think people sometimes forget that alcoholism can lead to serious physical illness. This would serve as a reminder.

I don’t know this for sure, but from the things I know it wouldn’t shock me. Still a shame, he got my reading resistant hubby into reading for pleasure. Too techie for my taste, but he was the “gateway” for hubby into a new genre of political thrillers.

While I’ve never read any of his books ( I keep meaning to!) I have probably spent close to a thousand dollars on his video games over the past 12 or so years when Rainbow 6 came out. He had the bright idea to start his own video game company, and his franchise will forever live.

RIP Mr Clancy

Edit: I enjoyed his movies too. I really should pick up some of the Jack Ryan books.
