Ripping videos to ipad?

I used to use tubesock to play youtube videos on my ipod, but they dont seem to be updated for mountain lion.
I own a couple dvds that I want to transfer to my ipad, but you need a third party application.
ISkysoft has a product called imedia converter that sounds like it should work, but the reviews also sound like " product placement" articles.
Any personal experience?

I love Handbrake. There are presets for the iPad and pretty much anyother way you want to watch video. Put in the DVD or select a file, push the button and it dings when it’s done.

The only issue can be setting up the subtitles correctly; the options are somewhat confusing. Took me a few tries with La Reine Margot to figure it out.

I second the Handbrake suggestion. I’ve used it and gotten pretty high quality video. Video clear enough for my HDTV.

PS. You can also rip from Youtube using KeepHD . com
