Rising college freshman, URGENT Q on high school final report

Hello, I am gonna graduate from high school next month. The final report comes out this month and it turns out that my US History is B+. The issue is that I plan to transfer during freshman/soph year in college, so colleges still look at my high school final report. For other B grades, I can’t save them anymore. So while my history grade drops from A- to B+, I don’t want to have more Bs than As on my report. And I need to explain what happened to you guys I need your help!!! Our senior grades are calculated in this way: First semester 60% second semester 40%. And second semester grades include the third quarter grade and the first half of the fourth quarter grade cuz we spend a full month on senior project, which means that we don’t need to go to school in May) And my first semester is A-. During my third quarter, my quarter grade is B+ due to an essay grade of 76 (it is quite stupid because the teacher didn’t teach the chapter and just gave us materials to read and an in class essay to write. And she gave me 76 because she said that my topic sentence didn’t fit well with my body paragraphs… WTH?) So I worked harder during the first half of the fourth quarter. But on my final report, my teacher didn’t give me any grades for any work I did during that month!!! So my third quarter accounts for 40% of my final grade… The issue is really complicated because i guess that the teacher forgot that I am a senior while others in my class were juniors ( I am an international student transferring from another school, so I have to take USH with juniors to fulfill credits)… And at the end of seniors’ classes, she sent me an email saying that I need to hand in my research paper two days later, while the senior year had officially ended that day and no works should be assigned. Also, research paper should be due for other students in May so as a senior I actually don’t have to even write a word about it. I had no time to write the paper because I had senior project and 2 APs coming at the same time. While I tried to contact her about paper, I found out that the final report came out. So I just assumed that I didn’t need to write it anymore. As you’ve read so far, do you guys think that I have reasonable requests to let the teacher give me grades for the first half of the fourth quarter so maybe I can improve my grades to A-? Or it is because I didn’t give her my paper? I asked my counselor in my dorm (not counselor in school) He said that if the teacher isn’t willing to give you grades, that’s it. You have no idea about it. But I don’t think that is the way teachers work. I want to look for help from my advisor and college counselor. As an international student, I am just confused how American schools work out these issues and I want to learn from you guys whether it’s possible to get my grades back. If not, am I wrong or my teachers wrong? If I insist, will I succeed in persuading teachers to help me and give me grades? If my school doesn’t help me, can I look for help from other organizations? Is it reasonable enough for me to appeal this issue? Or it’s justifiable for teachers to just give whatever grades they want to you?

First, all Americans schools are not the same, so we can not help you specifically.

Go to your districts’ website and look up the grading policy. If that does not mention senior grades, look it up in your schools handbook. Also look for policies about grade appeals.

Second, the teacher did not “give you whatever grade” she wanted to give you are. Chances are you got a zero on your research paper. Am I correct you never actually emailed her?

Nope, I emailed her that I had too much work to do before May 11, the day I had my last AP exam. And the grades came out before that day while she didn’t email back and noticed me about that. Also, she never mentioned that I need to finish my research paper before the end of all of my classes. There are enough reasons for me to Please do not make malicious speculation based on facts. Also, I’ve met a lot of teachers who give grades based on whether they like you or not. Thanks for your replies tho.

Oops, sorry for the multiple posting.

If you are still in school, I would just stop by and talk to her. (I know you are a senior, but are the rest of the school still in session?) If not, send her an email with careful wording. It’s worth a try.
