Rising Freshman Question

Hello all,

I am new to this community, and I have explored this forum to find that it is full of information and help towards everyone. I just want to know some things.

I am a rising freshman in GA, so there isn’t really much offered there. I want to become a doctor, mainly looking to go into a BS/MD program. I want to prefer a university that’s close to GA, but not in it. Personally, my choice for now is U. of Miami as well as Vanderbilt (more preference to the latter as it is less crime there). Other top-tier schools are also accepted.

Here is my question: what can I do in my high school year(s) to be accepted/a candidate towards being admitted into a great university? Please help me, as I only have two weeks before school starts.

Sincerely,

lol high school freshman…?

In all seriousness, I would suggest getting folded, smoking some dope, and having sex your freshmen year. If you try to be perfect starting now, you will burn out when it is least convenient: as a junior.

keep your grades up

take as many advanced classes as you can handle

start trying out extra cirricular activities- sports, theatre, clubs, etc. find what you really like to do and pick some activities that you want to stick with throughout high school. colleges like to see commitment and passion so try to figure out what you really like.

volunteer work-- start volunteering somewhere. it does not have to be a big deal, just a few times a month if you can.

RELAX and enjoy high school, and don’t stress out too much over college

Why no schools in Georgia?? Emory is top notch!

I second christalena2 and add Georgia Tech.

Unless you live in Atlanta and desperately want to be at least a few hours away from your parents, I wouldn’t ditch the attractiveness of staying in-state. HOPE does a good job reducing debt.

see, my folks live in GA, so I don’t wanna live near them…

lol redknight; and i’ll try to take things a little more leniently thanks

any recommendations on what clubs i should join?

Join whatever clubs you want to, and stop worrying about college, you have four years of high school left.

On a side note, I second fabrizio, why not GT?

if your school has any competitive extracurriculars (model un, debate, science bowl, math olympiad, etc.) then you may want to try those.

if you don’t succeed at them or don’t want to do them, then look for other stuff that interests you. it’s good that you’re getting a good start now, go to different clubs that you think you’d be interested in and try them out. over the years, you can narrow your focus and dedicate more time to them.
