Obviously i do not have enough stats for a “chance,” considering that I am only a rising sophmore, however I will post my grades for the past year and my EC’s + other information so that I can have some feedback on what to do next because Brown is the university of my dreams and I love it there! Please give me advice on what to do and some “direction” + any sort of advice about academics… I am interested in Computer Science or Entrepreneurship.
PLEASE ALL ADVICE NEEDED! - My school does their GPA out of 4.0 but they haven’t given me my cumulative gpa yet.

Hey, I’m also a rising sophomore, so I get wanting to do as much as you can to get into Brown.

Advice other CC members gave me: don’t focus singularly on Brown – or any one school for that matter. Keep your grades as close to a 4.0 as possible. If it can be helped, don’t settle for any A-'s. Make sure that you escape the mentality of “oh, hey, I have an A, so I don’t need to do my homework tonight”. Find a distinct passion and dedicate a lot of time to it.

It’s hard to chance you without SAT and ACT scores. Your ECs look good and everything, just keep it up.

Thanks for the advice, good luck to you as well since we’re both rising sophmores! Great to know that there are others out there with the same interests! Anybody have more advice?

My advice as a current brown student: stop trying to overcommit yourself with ECs and pick a few that you can focus on. Most students I know did 1 or 2 ECs in high school but excelled at them.

Things like the Italian club…is that really fun?

My college app philosophy is that you should try to draw connections between the ways you spend your time to show them that you legitimately enjoy what you do. For example, one of my major interests in high school was music. I talked about how I played music in and out of school, in jazz and rock bands, and how I used music as a way to do community service (performing at charity events), and make money (teach lessons, play cocktail parties). It became clear through this that I was not playing music to put it on my college app, but because I enjoyed playing music.

They are going to want to know why you think each and every activity is worthwhile, and I think you may have a hard time showing them you contributed in each and every one of those ECs. I also did Mock Trial, and that alone should be occupying much of your time (if it’s what you enjoy).

Take it or leave it, but I would suggest making a positive impact in a few of your interests, rather than wasting your time being all over the place.

^^ Thanks for the advice! Awesome to have a brown student with so much advice! BTW, i got my gpa … it’s a 3.5, but i’m retaking two regents and my GC said that if i ace them both, my gpa will be around a 3.7… so how can i get that 3.7 (assuming i get a 90+ on both of the regents) to a 3.8? is that possible?
