<p>there has been alot of discussion concerning top programs offered at florida state, however many have been left unmentioned. I was drawn to the university because of their program in risk management, which is currently ranked 6th by US NEWS. Basically all I know about this program is its high ranking, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some more information on it. </p>

The undergraduate program in risk management and insurance at Florida State University, established in the 1940s, is ranked among the top ten programs in the nation. The achievements of our graduates within the industry have served to build a strong relationship between the risk management/insurance communities and the RMI program at FSU.</p>
<p>The objective of the program in risk management/insurance is to acquaint students with the effects of risk and uncertainty upon business and the society. The analysis of risk and the methods of meeting risk, as necessary tools of business management, are placed in proper perspective as parts of a broad business curriculum.</p>
<p>More specifically, the program is designed to provide students with an overall background in risk management, life and health insurer operations and products; property and liability operations and products; and employee benefits. The balanced exposure to the risk management and insurance areas, coupled with the students’ selected interests in the area makes them very attractive recruits for the risk management and insurance industry. The educational program at FSU allows students to “fast-track” many training programs and to maintain a competitive advantage over other recruits in their professional endeavors.</p>
<p>The insurance industry, representing a major sector of the U.S. economy, provides a variety of entry-level career opportunities for our graduates. Excellent career opportunities exist in the fields of marketing (including agency and brokerage), underwriting, loss control, claims, and risk management for non-insurance corporations.</p>
<p>Historically, the placement rate for graduates of the program has been excellent. In addition to the university’s career service activities, the department annually holds its own two-day placement program. Through this activity almost all graduates seeking employment are placed upon graduation. In addition to the classroom activities, the program incorporates internship opportunities for students wishing to participate.</p>
<p>Beyond the academic content of the program is the FSU Insurance Society. This organization provides a forum for students, faculty, and business leaders interact outside the classroom environment. Close interaction between the RMI students and their faculty continues as a hallmark of the program.</p>
<p>An additional facet of the FSU RMI major program is its cooperative efforts with the actuarial science program, housed in the mathematics department at FSU. Students from this program are required to take three RMI courses as part of their major program. Thus, the RMI and actuarial science students are afforded the opportunity to draw from the strengths of both programs.

<p>It is my understanding that Actuarial Science and Risk Management teach students for the same types of jobs, but Actuarial Science is more math-based and more geared towards the actuary career field specifically.
