rival?

sparked by the stalker thread by caiacs i was just wondering if any of you have (in)formal rivals here at Cal?

i mean, we takes a lot of classes here, and it’s not uncommon to have a couple of people that you just naturally see in a lot of your classes and you happen to remember their faces or maybe a name or two or maybe even try to make friends with them if you’re not shyshy. but ever since my 1st semester here there have been a few people that made me think they were rather smart, so i now tend to stalk them every now and then: scan the deans list for their names; try to pry grades out of them to ask what they got in classes we took together,; ask what they’re spending their summer or semester doing, etc, etc.

i think it’s kind of fun to have informal rivals and a good motivator, at least for me :S

although i must admit to my dismay, while walking thru evans i saw someone i wanted to compete with in my major taking a stat 2 section (stat 2 doesnt satisfy my major, so i guess there goes that person… meh.)

does any one else have these sort of stalkerish, slightly obsessive/creepy tendencies?

if you don’t think anybody and everybody here at Berkeley is your “rival” or competition, then you’ve got Berkeley all wrong. I’ve met few openly cutthroat people, but I know tons of closet cutthroats.

Most of the kids I meet in my classes have more cooperative mentalities.

Usually the mediocre kids are the more cutthroat because there are so many of them fighting for those B-'s whereas the kids that know what they’re doing don’t worry as much and just beast whatever material the professor throws at them.

Crush all!

I am pretty much a silent assassin. I may not look like one, but I will destroy you, especially you pre-med kids. :P
