From a photo of the Kavanaugh investiture, I noticed that Justices Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor were both wearing short robes, in contrast with the full-length robes worn by the male Justices. I would like to see this practice stop.
Justices Kagan and Sotomayor do not need to wear robes of the length that would fit Justice Ginsburg.
They are both very short, so maybe longer robes get tangled in the wheels of their chairs. They get to choose their own robes so stopping ‘this practice’ would take the choice away from the women.
Sotomayor is standing next to Beyer?(I think that’s him) and the hem of his robe seems to be in line with hers. Personal choice.
Increase your sample size. It looks like they have may robe lengths. Some are ankle length. Some under the knee. One pick I saw had Justice Breyer with a knee length robe.
Interesting thread subject, lol!
IMO, women generally pay attention to functionality and looks of whatever they wear. Dudes… just throw on whatever fell out the closet first.
I have a feeling they either chose it or don’t care. I can’t imagine any of the supremes being bullied into robes that don’t fit as they wish.
I thought the optics of the picture with Kavanaugh were not good, really. Of course, their choice. I have worn essentially full length robes for graduation, with no difficulty. They need not reach the tops of the shoes.
As women, we just can’t win. Get to the position of Supreme Court justice, and we still get criticized for our fashion choices.
