Robot Pool Sweeper.. Recommendations

Planning to buy a Robot in ground Pool Sweeper that will climb the walls and steps. Currently is using a hand vaccum, time consuming and labor intensive.

Looked up prices on the internet and it came with many varieties and prices. Generally a decent one costs $600 new.

Should I buy the electrical one independent of pool filters or using the filter system to power the sweeper? Any brand recommendations? Success or failure stories?

Thanks in advance.

We use a Polaris, which is powered by a booster pump connected to the pool’s filtering mechanism. However, what it vacuums up goes into a bag, not the pool filter. This is important for us as we tend to get a lot of leaves in our pool.

It works pretty well at keeping the pool clean. It needs occasional adjustments and replacement of rubber parts, and of course the booster pump occasionally needs maintenance/replacement. Our setup would be improved by a separate timer for the booster pump–as it is, it goes on whenever the pool pumps are running which is more than necessary.

We inherited it from the previous owners of our home, so didn’t do any comparison shopping–there might be better, less expensive options out there.

I second Polaris, just purchased a new one at end of last season, i forget which model…Had a polaris at last home, and never had to replace anything in 5 years…That said, you do need a booster pump as mentioned above…Their are very good ones that cost abit more that run solely on electricity, imho, better then Polaris, but much costly…If you don’t have a booster pump, then the cost difference is negligible

here is alink i used from last year

We had one (sorry I don’t remember the brand) that went into the filter. It worked fine for us, be we were only sweeping up dust, pollen, and a few bugs. If you have leaves, I think that would be problematic. In fact, when we had the random leaf, it wouldn’t even go up the wand.

When I used to have a pool, I used an Aquabot, which runs off of electricity ( it has its own small pump on board). You will save a lot of money by not having to run the pool’s pump. Highly recommend the Aquabot.

Running the pool vac at the same time as pool filter is running cost not a cent more…But running the Aquabot in addition to the pool filter running WILL cost you more, as you are running 2 pieces of equipment on 2 seperate electric connections…i have built 2 pools and attached spas in 10 years at 2 differnt houses, and know much more about pools then is necessary, lol…

Well, I don’t have a booster pump, what that will cost me? How can I install it without digging the concrete patios? And how to identify a booster pump in the first place? Lol… A total pool novice.

ok, here is a link describing a pressure side pool vac …
