Foe several months now, every other YouTube video I play starts with an ad for RIT. I thought it may be due to my participation here on CC that the algorithm selected me for this. But on a recent trip into Boston I noticed many billboards advertising RIT. Then today this article appeared in The Boston Globe. Sorry, there is a pay wall. Why so many Rochester Institute of Technology ads in the MBTA?
They did it at Grand Central, too, in the fall, I believe.
I haven’t seen any on youtube or social media which is odd since I have a kid going to RIT in the fall
I am not sure why this is an article? Subways and train stations often have lots of college/university ads. I was on metronorth recently and 3/4 ads were for grad schools (Quinnipiac, Fairfield, etc).
Anyway, I do think name awareness of RIT is low given its rankings. Not a marketer so not sure this is impactful, or not, but seems like article gives some supporting data it is?
I have definitely seen it…a lot. I keep seeing YouTube ads for it sometimes, and in Penn Station before to go up from the Moynihan Train Hall and the AmTrak area/or when you walk up to go on the subway. It’s EVERYWHERE!
I think I saw this too!
Some other schools I’ve seen are Siena on the LIRR too. They had their posters everywhere.
ETA: I rode the LIRR yesterday. I saw Fordham, Stony Brook (though mentioned by their super cool sounding Mobile Stroke system but probably promotes the school anyway), and yeah…they’re common…it seems…at least, where I am.
I’ve never seen Purdue Global, but my S who watches a lot of stuff on You Tube says he sees a lot of Purdue Global ads.
You can turn off your location settings, which may be one way they are targeting. I think it can also be targeting based on what sort of content you may be viewing on You Tube.
