Rodman 2013

Keep in mind UVa gives students eight semesters to graduate (with few exceptions). There is no ninth semester or fifth year plan for the demands of engineering, a second major, a switched major, failed courses, etc. The e’school has a 15 credit/sem minimum, and most semesters are going to be closer to 17-18 credits for your first major. Again, this depends on how much credit you’re coming in with. J-term is an excellent way to knock out an STS or other course, and while internships are very important, a summer picking up a few classes in c’ville while doing research will also help if you’re trying to fit in a minor. The eight semesters is the rule, not the exception, and you need to take that into consideration when you make your decision.
