I got an award in the mail saying “congratulations on being a Rogel Scholar.” and that’s pretty much all it said. I looked online and saw it was listed under Award of Excellence scholarships. So is the Rogel Scholarship just another name for the Award of Excellence scholarship I already recieved or is it something different?

My son also received notice of a Rogel Scholarship today. There was no dollar amount - just a statement that all unmet need would be covered. My son already has other scholarships that will reduce the cost to just under the EFC as determined by the FAFSA. So, would the Rogel cover the EFC?

If it says “unmet need” then I suspect it’s not going to cover the EFC. “Need” in the financial aid parlance means the cost of attendance minus the EFC.

Congratulations on your awards. The Rogels are fabulous supporters of U-M, and up until a few years ago Michigan didn’t have anything like that award to offer out-of-staters. It was a great gesture on their part, and quite a feather in your cap to win one!
