Rogue transcript

This fall I’m applying for an MA program. This program requires a long list of prereqs, so I am currently in a postbacc program in which I’m in the process of taking 8 specialized courses which are required for entry. The postbacc program is at a different institution than my undergrad.

When I apply, I’ll be submitting both my postbacc transcript and my undergraduate transcript. My undergraduate transcript is kind of weird and long, because my school gave evaluations instead of grades, but it’s also part of a consortium, so I have graded consortium classes as part of my undergrad transcript as well. Whew- that’s a lot of material!

I ALSO took one class at another university during the summer of my sophomore year of undergrad. It’s not an important class for graduate admission, it would be yet another transcript to give them to sort through, and the grade isn’t very good. I don’t want an admissions committee to see that grade and the grades from the other institutions (which are good) and skip or skim over my evaluations. I feel like they’re going to try to construct a GPA for me using those grades even though I technically will not have a GPA.

Is it okay for me to just not submit that rogue transcript which shows the single class? Not to sound immoral, but is there a way for them to search me by name or social security number and find out I took a nonmatriculating class one summer at another school?

Thanks for any input.

It sounds as though you went to Hampshire. If so, graduate programs are probably aware of the evaluation system there, as well as the five-college exchange system.

You will have to look carefully at your application instructions for each program. Some require transcripts from all colleges while other specify “as a matriculated student.” Although you probably won’t be caught if you omit the transcript, think twice about doing so. Chances are, they won’t care anyway.
