When Rohan Bansal thinks of his career, the young man from Princeton Township knows it should meet two criteria: It has to be helpful to others and he must be able to see results of his own efforts quickly.

“That’s why I want to become a physician,” says Rohan, The Star-Ledger Scholar for Middlesex County.

“I’ve known that ever since I started high school. Medicine would allow me to the effects of my work right away. I will be tangibly helping people with their lives.”

Yet the top senior at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North also loves physics and math and once considered engineering as a possible future. He sees himself as using new technology in the healing arts.

Rohan received all A’s for all courses he took in high school and, after he exhausted all the math and science courses his school could offer, he took three at nearby Princeton University, including organic chemistry.

Rohan scored 2330 on the SAT, including perfect 800s on the math and writing tests. He also scored 800 on SAT subject matter tests in chemistry, physics and math. The young scholar earned the top grade of 5 on five Advanced Placement tests in biology, chemistry, physics, math and English.

His favorite activity outside of school is playing in a rock and alternative band – Icarus – he put together with some friends. He plays acoustic guitar and writes music for it.

“My acoustic guitar has calmed me and allowed me to focus more times than I can remember,” says Rohan. “Many songs I’ve written came from when I was tense.”

Rohan won’t travel far to college. He will attend Princeton University.

Congratulations, Rohan!
