Rolling admissions and EA/ED

Why daughter is considering applying to Arizona State rolling admissions. She also an EA/ED school in mind. I am wondering if she applies rolling to ASU if it will affect her EA/ED in some way. Can she apply rolling admissions to ASU (and assuming she gets in) can she still apply EA/ED to other schools?

She can apply to as many EA/ rolling admission schools as she likes, but only 1 ED. Applying to other schools EA/rolling won’t affect her ED application. If she gets into the ED school, it is a binding acceptance and she must attend there.

For schools with restrictions on Early Action (“REA” or “SCEA”), they typically don’t have any issue with a student applying early to public schools that release non-binding decisions. I believe that combo (rolling, non-binding, public) is the case for ASU, Pitt, and Oregon State, so I think they should all be fine, and applications to those schools wouldn’t impact or conflict with her other applications.

Yes, as others have answered…and just to be clear, she does not have to wait to hear from ASU to get her other apps in.

REA and SCEA also typically do not restrict against applying early to non-binding rolling admission schools (regardless of public or private), although the exact details of each REA or SCEA school’s restrictions should be checked on its web site.

Obviously you should in fact check, but I was pleasantly surprised that most basically boiled down to you can’t apply anywhere else binding (until after the REA/SCEA decision date), and you can’t apply to other US privates Early Action 1. But it seemed like every other notable “early” scenario was an exception (rolling, public EA, ED 2 or EA 2, applications by a merit deadline that were otherwise considered RD, and non-US).

Some REA schools only restrict against applying ED elsewhere, without restriction against applying EA to some set of other schools that some REA schools have.

But each may be different, so check each one carefully.
