<p>Just wondering if any of you have ever hired a company to clean your roof? If so, was it a company that was exclusive to this type of service? Our roof is in need of a good cleaning as it has alot of black streaking (mildew), algae and lichen. Doing it ourself with a power washer is NOT an option as my roof is steeply pitched and large and we are not interested in potentially falling off the roof. I have googled “roof cleaning” (we are in CT) but honestly choosing someone to do this is random at best. I am not sure what types of questions to ask (other than making sure they are insured and bonded). So…just wondering if any of you have ever hired a service to do this and if so what I should be looking for when hiring a contractor to clean. Any comments, suggestions or recommendations if you are in the CT/NYC metro area are appreciated.</p>
<p>Hire a professional-Ask friends, like you are doing, or ask your Realtor-they will have a roster of professionals.</p>
<p>Boy, it is so difficult to hire a good contractor. We swear we’ve managed to attract the best of the worst in the last decade. However, there are good ones out there, and I think your best bet is to go with recommendations and the advice of friends who have done this. The idea of a realtor’s advice is great.</p>
<p>I had this same problem. I have not had my really high & steep roof done yet (haven’t found a contractor) but I had a guy I know (in construction) do it on the side for me on my family room roof (not too high or steep). I also had him install zinc strips to prevent regrowth. It is amazing! 1+ year later the cleaned roof is absolutely mint. This site has the products that I used. Since they also sell to contractors perhaps you could email them and see if they would recommend a contractor in your area. I highly recommend going the extra step with the zinc and you won’t have to deal with this again.</p>
