I know a lot of people that are just going to fill out the roommate survey on the housing app, but it doesn’t really include much about personality stuff, so I’m not sure whether to do one of those surveys in the facebook group and pick someone from who I think is most compatible or to just trust the housing app?
What are you guys doing?

I would do room blind. If you get to know someone via FB, there are emotional expectations which can lead to frustration later on. Let chance take care of it. My first year was a disaster, but the following were great. In fact, my current roomate is now my friend, and we are possibly going to be friends even after college. If you rm with a friend from start, it can interfere qith your choice of people you may interact later. With a total stranger, you don’t have to share anything except the room, and you build your own circle.

Yeah, makes sense. Thanks!

My daughter did the facebook thing and was extremely happy with the result. She found another person with whom she had a lot in common, and they have remained close and will room together again next year (in Soph/Jr year she lived in the sorority). So it can work, but I am sure nothing is foolproof.
