Hey, I was wondering how thorough the room checks over break were going to be? I accidentally left some flatware from one of the dc’s in my drawer. Will the staff that conducts the room checks actually be opening drawers and closets?

nope, just an electric check to make sure that nothing is plugged in.

why don’t they just shut off the power? haha

So they’re not really allowed to touch any of our stuff right?

I think stolen flatware is the least the people doing the room checks are concerned about. Probably all they will do is an electric check and see if there is something (or someone) that should obviously not be there.

So is it going to be a big deal if I didn’t unplug the fridge?

Do you guys think it’s safe for me to leave my printer sitting on my desk (unplugged) in my room over break? It’s a pain to lug around but are there instances of theft? I really have no way of locking it in place

i remember freshman year people getting busted for having those empty alcohol bottles in their room because they contained “alcohol residue.” no joke. the dorms dont play!

That’s exactly what I mean by the “something” that they don’t want to see. Obviously empty alcohol bottles have reason for concern and would probably get you in trouble.

As for Sambago, you can leave your printer there. It will be fine. I left mine in the dorms last year and had no problems. If you’re afraid someone’s going to take it, chances are, nobody will want to steal a printer.

Especially since they’ll be paying more for the ink…

what about druu’s question?

i have a huge black chest in my closet that I can lock up. Will they try break it open to if i have anything inside that i shouldn’t have?

For druu’s question, I’m not too certain about the whole fridge unplugging issue. Last year, I don’t think I unplugged and when I returned I believe it was still plugged in, but I could be wrong because my roommates may have taken care of it. If they do want it unplugged, chances are, if it is easy for them to unplug it, then they can do it themselves. You wouldn’t want to leave anything perishable in there anyways over the break, so if it is off or on, as long as it is empty there should be no problem.

For FlashingDots question, I highly doubt they’re going to break open something that they cannot see inside of. It’s not like they have dogs sniffing out stuff looking for things to get you on. The only thing they’re really checking is that things are unplugged and that you or one of your roommates are trying to stay inside for the break.

My RA said she’s just checking for everything being unplugged and all the garbage being taken out. She said she’ll also write people up if there’s anything in plain sight.

Empty alchohol bottles won’t necessarily get you in trouble. A little bit of luck I think.
