Roommate Defrauded Gates

So, I’m rooming with a lifelong friend of mine who is a 2013 GMS recipient.
However, I have found out that his family lied about their income level. His family grosses four times the required family income level required to be eligible for the scholarship. His family is not very discreet with respect to their affluence. They live in a 2400 square foot home on a sizable tract of land, purchased him a brand new car recently, and own their own business. And to top it all off, my roommate’s olde sibling is also a Gates Scholar

I am also wondering if it is possible to lose the Gates because of poor academic performance. My roommate’s GPA is currently a 2.3.

Basically, I feel that I have a moral obligation to report my roommate. It isn’t right that they are so privileged, yet there are others who do not have the opportunities he has and who were, in my opinion, robbed of a fair shot at the Gates.
If I were to report my roommate, how would I go about doing that? I have looked on the Gates website, but to no avail.

It is good that you are thinking about this.

Hm… usually the FAFSA will rule out anyone that is ineligible by income/pell grant eligibility. But to keep the scholarship, he must obtain a certain GPA deemed “satisfactory standing” as required by the university. However, he will not lose the scholarship right away if he has a 2.3 GPA. The program will assign mentors, give information on resources, etc. all to help him raise his GPA.

@diffuse I apologize. I should have clarified. His father does work by which he services private clients in their homes and is paid cash. Therefore, most of his income is not reported on his income tax nor the FAFSA.
