In my room there are 4 members including me . I have problem with them regarding light and window issue. Window is in the side of two members in my room. My room is so dark during daytime and no ventilation . When i ask them to open the window for fresh air they refuses immediately. I feel very suffocated because of this. Actually in my hostel, light can be turned ON until 10.pm but they usually turn it off between 9.00pm to 9.30pm itself but they don’t sleep, they watch movies after turning off the light i sometimes really get irritated by this action. Then i decided to change my room but two of my roommates started crying and asked me not to leave this room and they also assured that if i want I can turn the light from 10.00 pm to 10.30pm and i was guilty and i didn’t change the room .Now what should i do to come out of this, there is only 6 months left to finish my degree because of this i cannot focus on studies and sometimes i feel mentally uncomfortable because of dark and no fresh air in the room.
Do what’s good for you not what’s good for your roommates. You can have an open conversation with all in attendance but it seems they aren’t respecting your ask which seems minor to me.
See if the option of changing rooms is still available.
Are you ever in the room when they are not? Seems like you would be permitted to open the window when you are in there by yourself or with the roommates who beg you not to leave who might be more understanding
I will talk to my roommate, and I’ll try to sort this out
Maybe you can compromise - the window is open for fresh air, but the room is dark so they can rest. (I think you can get light from other sources but you can’t really get fresh air without the window.) It’s very hard to navigate sharing a bedroom as an adult and you were right to come here for advice!
Can they afford for you to leave?
I’ve never heard of anyone crying because a person wants to leave the room.
You won’t be comfortable until you leave the room. It sounds like you have a seasonal affective condition. If it feels suffocating to you, talk to them and tell them that you are uncomfortable. Find a new room. It will be expensive but will help you get through your stress.
Are you in a University? You mentioned hostel.
