Roommate Issues

So my roommate and I are two completely opposite people. We have almost nothing in common, the only thing being that we are on the swim team together. Today I was talking to another swimmer on the team and she was saying the same about her roommate. We were talking more and she said that she wanted to change roommates and have me move into her room and have her roommate take my spot. The girl that would be moving into my room is friends with my roommate. The only problem is we don’t know how to bring this up to our respective roommates since we are all on the same team we don’t want any awkward feelings of dislike between us. It’s not that we don’t like each other. We just are better friends with other people. Any advice on how to talk to them about this?
Thanks :)

If your current roommate isn’t actively attempting to be really close with you, and is friends with the other girl she would be rooming with, then I don’t think it will be too terribly awkward. It’s a bit weird to bring up, sure, but focus on the fact that you want to live with this other girl, rather than the fact that you don’t want to live with your current roommate. It might be a little awkward to discuss but it might be in everyone’s best interest and will make everyone happier, which will make it a non-issue once you just talk about it.
