How close do you become with your roommates ? I’m gonna be a freshman in college this upcoming fall and I’m skeptical because I want a bro friendship but I always hear about how roommates don’t get along & you have a hard first semster . What are you experiences ?
It really depends on your roommate there’s no use worrying about it yet. Sometimes you guys will match, sometimes you won’t.
My first roommate and I had a bro friendship, but then he tried to skip on the last month of rent and he ruined it. That wasn’t in dorms obviously, but it just goes to show friendships can really vary.
I think it depends on the situation. I am a first-year student and I could definitely advise you to seek for someone who is respectful. As far as friends, you and your roommate(s) do not have to be close or bestie. It’s best to get a roommate who allows you to sleep when you need to. This means that he/she is quiet while you’re sleeping, instead of ruining your sleeping schedule or if you’re trying to study and he/she listens to the music through his/her headphones. Personally, I have a roommate who I rarely talk to. He has his group of friends, which I don’t mind because he respects me a lot. When I am tired and need to sleep, he turns off the lights for me and puts his little lamp on. He tries to be as quiet as possible. And yeah, again, we rarely talk. For the other, we’re closer, but our friendship eventually faded since he doesn’t really have manners. He would bring his study group to study in our room at 3 am and they’ll talk so loud that it messes up my sleeping schedule. When he enters the room, he would drop everything loudly and make a huge mess that causes our room to look messy. Yeah, so overall, you don’t need to be friends with your roommate(s). )You can always make friends in college since there will be so many people. If you live in dorms, you are mostly likely to see the same people every day. For commuters, try to join clubs and talk to people in school.
