My rising Junior daughter has been accepted to Operation Catapult this summer. Just wanted to see if anyone had feedback on the program. My only goal for her is to meet some nice kids and gain some exposure to Engineering to see if she enjoys it. She thinks she wants to major in Engineering, though torn between Electrical and Mechanical at the moment. Has anyone’s kiddo attend the program and did they enjoy it/gain value from the program?
Didn’t attend but when we were touring and stopped in the dining hall, there were some girls from New Jersey.
They raved about the program.
Honestly, I didn’t dip into detail to see if it was the social or academic aspects or anything else.
It’s a fine school with a great rep so I’m guessing they put on a fine program.
This is back to 2007 - but they seem to have been doing this a long time - and there’s some positive reviews if you read past all the scholarship and other stuff. If you’ve been doing it that long, something has to be right - correct?
You can also ask the school for some referrals from past years to talk to.
We always have one or two students attend the summer program. I believe it is very well regarded. The only issue for me is no air conditioning in the summer in Indiana.
My D did a different camp at Rose aimed at freshmen and sophomores. She had a great time, but has decided engineering isn’t for her.
The residence halls they use for the summer programs are air conditioned.
Our rising senior is attending the second session this summer. He’s leaning more toward a math major, but he is very interested in Rose-Hulman. I’ve heard great feedback about the camp, and our Rose tour guide told us that attending the camp reinforced that Rose was the right place for her. Hope your daughter has a great experience!
Thanks so much for everyone’s feedback. I definitely feel more confident about the program. I think Rose as school will ultimately be too small for her, but looking more for engineering experience than school fit. DD will also be there second session. We are travelling from Richmond, VA. Kumihama-Cho - where are you all from? Thinking we may do a quick tour of Purdue while we are in Indiana.
We’re in Memphis. S25 did an engineering program at Missouri S&T last summer. It definitely cemented that he wants to do something in STEM and he enjoyed the other participants. I’ve heard that Operation Catapult is a blast, so I’m sure they’ll have a great time!
That is good news for sure!
My son did the Operation Catapult camp last summer going into his junior year of high school - It was a great experience. He got to live on a college campus, share a dorm room, do an engineering project, work with actual professors, and have fun. In the evenings they plan different activities for them to chose. Lastly, he got to narrow down the type of engineering he is considering. We visited Rose( projects right away) Purdue ( no hands on projects till end of sophomore year, and Notre Dame’s programs. I think you said Virginia - check out UVA, Villanova , and Georgia tech too.
Where did he end up?
He is still looking , he has one more year of high school. But Rose- Hulman is in the top 3.
