Joy Behar has never made a racist comment that I’ve seen. And unlike those who keep trying to say otherwise (something I’ve seen a lot on social media), I’ve watched quite a lot of the show. Certain segments of the population are creating a false equivalency in comparing them. It has nothing to with Roseanne’s racist tweets.

Shares are down more than 7 percent year to date
it depends! professor makes disgraceful tweet has no consequence.
I rarely watched her old show, and just the pilot this year out of curiosity. It wasn’t that great. Good riddance.
I very much doubt the show would get picked up by another network. This is very different than the reasons other shows have moved networks — usually those are financial reasons rather than controversy. I’d be surprised if many, if any, of the rest of the Roseanne cast would be willing to take another chance with Roseanne Barr.
Professor doesn’t depend on the general public for their job.
I watched Roseanne all the time as a kid. I understood the midwestern, dying factory town dynamics and humor.
I find Roseanne vile and was incredibly disappointed that someone like Sara Gilbert signed on to the reboot.
@romanigypsyeyes Sarah Gilbert not only “signed on for the reboot” – she was an EXECUTIVE PRODUCER AND CO-CREATOR of the reboot. It’s hard for me to believe she didn’t know what she was getting into with Barr. Disappointing indeed.
I thought the point of the reboot was to present a counterpoint to exactly those type of views. I’m sure the creators must have had some inkling that she loves attention and likes to shock people, but I suspect they thought she might try to hold it together for the opportunity they were giving her.
@katliamom I didn’t know that… and that is even more depressing
Well you saved me some typing… I appreciate it! No loss whatsoever in my world.
What Roseanne did was disgusting and I’m thrilled ABC had the testicles to get rid of the show as quickly as they did.
I’m also glad that our society is evolving. ABC cancelling Roseanne, Starbucks conducting training, NFL players kneeling being a huge controversy – 10 years ago, we wouldn’t have been discussing these things at all. We are making progress. And of course it’s way too slow, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve learned that real change occurs over decades.
According to Roseanne, Ambien made her a racist. That’s one of the more creative excuses I’ve heard for racist behavior.
MODERATOR’S NOTE: This is an example of why it’s hard for us to keep threads open. Someone made a political comment and then others responded. I had to go through each post and edit/delete as necessary. I also had to delete posts about unrelated incidents. PLEASE help us if you want threads to remain open!
Ambien didn’t make her a racist. Ambien made her tweet that she was a racist. >:P
She’s bipolar, has ADHD and Multiple Personality Disorder. I’m surprised she blamed the Ambien.
I’m not defending her. Her mental illness doesn’t mean anyone has to tolerate her racist comments and weird conspiracy theories, but she definitely needs help if she’s not already/still in treatment.

Wow, that’s the first time I’ve ever heard that she actually has diagnosed multiple personality disorder. I knew something was probably wrong with her, but still…
Also never heard she was diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (that’s the term now used for this condition). It’s very rare, and often misdiagnosed.
Roseanne Barr’s target audience is poor white people which skips right over most of the posters here. Tim Allen, Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy are others who resonate with the demographic. I watched them all years ago. I’ll still watch low-brow comedy and reality shows on occasion despite moving into the upper middle class.
I thought having Whitney Cummings involved as a show runner might have made the reboot more politically self-aware and they tried to be. She is tied in to a lot of the women trying to change things for the better in Hollywood.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Well, it’s her claim. Obviously HIPAA rules apply, so we only have her word:

By now means an excuse, though.
It seems to me ABC knew what they were getting into with Roseanne.
