Roseanne canceled

Comedians need to learn (the hard way in this case) that you don’t make jokes about women’s looks - whether they be Valerie Jarret, Michelle Obama, Chelsea Clinton or Sarah Sanders. But it seems for so many bad taste is the norm in comedy and they don’t know when they go over the line.

Even if Roseanne has impulse control issues due to mental health diagnoses, they don’t make her think racist thoughts. That’s all on her and being a racist.

MODERATOR’S NOTE: I just deleted this post: “Michelle Wolf is a hero for bashing Sarah Sanders.”

One more edit/deletion will mean the thread will be closed (unless it’s the user who posted the above, who would receive a major warning for more off-topic posts).

Its HIPAA, not HIPPA. Pet peeve.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
So, on another thread, a user is wondering why threads get closed. Here’s one reason why: discussion about Starbucks and the WH Correspondents’ Dinner have nothing to do with Roseanne, Roseanne Barr, ABC, Disney Media Networks, etc. Those topics had their own thread, which may or may not still be open. Let’s keep to topic on this thread. Several posts edited/deleted.

ETA. Cross-posted with @MaineLonghorn

Hmm, keeping threads open seems to take a lot of moderating time!

(Note that we would really rather not clutter up threads with a bunch of notes from moderators - that’s another reason people don’t realize how hard it is for us to keep threads open.)

@gallentjill

Thank you. Edited post.

The only surprise to me was that she kept apologizing. Way over the line. Some people don’t even know there is a line…

My father takes ambien and has since his accident over a decade ago. He’s never actually goes to sleep on it and it does mess him up pretty bad. The worst thing he has ever done is drive down to a casino in Detroit and played blackjack. We had to hide the keys after that at night for a long time.

That said, she is full of it if that’s her excuse. She’s a racist bigot and her tweets have demonstrated that for years and years.

Saw this hilarious response from the maker of Ambien in a CNN article:

“Sanofi, the maker of Ambien, responded with a statement full of shade: “While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication.”“

I liked the idea of presenting a political viewpoint that we don’t often see on television sitcoms. In particular the idea of [the character] Roseanne and Dan running up against the day to day realities of a diverse modern family seemed like great fodder for exploration of our political landscape. Done well it could have been another “All in the Family” or reverse “Family Ties.” I only watched the first episode because I just don’t have room for more TV in my life, but I’m sad that the real life Roseanne Barr couldn’t keep her abhorrent views to herself and ruined a successful show for a whole cast of actors.

Bigots like Joy Behar remain on the air, so not sure why the disparate treatment toward Rosanne Barr. Let’s see some evenhandedness, shall we?

It’s not about the show itself, or how good it is, though I did see one episode and it actually was funny. Most reboots aren’t, so I was surprised.

It’s about the abject bias that is so horrendous.

I’m shocked that there are people defending blatant racism. What Roseanne said was blatantly racist. And instead of staying off Twitter, she is currently advancing more lies and made up conspiracies.

I’m not shocked that people continue to spread lies about other comedians in an effort to deflect though.

“Momoftwogirls: Joy Behar has never made a racist comment that I’ve seen.”

Um, she’s gone lower. She had to trot out the standard faux “apology” for her flagrant anti-Christian comments.

"Joy Behar publicly apologizes for calling Pence’s Christianity a ‘mental illness’

Joy Behar, a co-host of “The View,” publicly apologized Tuesday for mocking Vice President Pence’s Christian faith and suggesting that his religious views made him mentally ill.

“I think Vice President Pence is right; I was raised to respect everyone’s religious faith, and I fell short of that,” Behar said on the ABC show. “I sincerely apologize for what I said.”"

Her on-air apology came after weeks of protests by viewers who were outraged by her remarks.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2018/03/13/vice-president-pence-is-right-joy-behar-publicly-apologizes-for-mocking-christianity/?utm_term=.0c906db93b35

But she gets a pass for her so-called “joke” (as she reframed it, after massive protest) and I think we all know why. This isn’t her only low point, but one of many. But Roseanne says a “joke” and it hits the fan. The hypocrisy is what bothers me.

ABC didn’t even air a scheduled rerun last night. I was interest to see if they would, checked the schedule and although listed, ABC put on a double episode of The Middle.

When they say Cancelled, they mean cancelled!

"mom2twogirls: She very clearly prefaced her statement, as they were discussing Omarosa’s comments about Pence, by saying she did NOT think he was mentally ill but don’t we consider people hearing voices to be mentally ill? "

I saw what she said, as did half of America. I stand by my comments.

She wouldn’t be apologizing for something she did not say, would she? She most definitely said that people who think that God talks to them are mentally ill.

I guess that means her forefathers, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, etc.

We are talking about a different mentally ill person here, Roseanne Barr.

What I’m going to call out every single time is hypocrisy. If you weren’t screeching about how out of line talk show host Joy Behar was with her reprehensible anti-Christian comments, don’t be going on about some sitcom star.

If you were equally offended, then no issue.

Some well known figures get appropriately castigated for their treatment of women. Others seem to get a pass. Talk about hypocrisy.

Anyway, back to mental illness…
Roseanne has listed a few. I’m surprised borderline personality disorder wasn’t one of them.

I wonder if she will fade away or go into treatment in an effort to get another shot somewhere. Obviously there are people already ready to find excuses for her repeated racism.
