“It’s about the abject bias that is so horrendous.”
You don’t find Roseanne’s racist comments horrendous? You think the “bias” you perceive is worse than racism? You seem more appalled by what you view as hypocrisy than by the tweets.

Personally, I’m against all putting people down in a mean spirited way whether it’s high level folks (politics, fame of any sort) or my high schoolers (and it’s NOT allowed in my classes without being addressed by me and higher up if needed). I vastly prefer, preach, and live tolerance.
But if we must put “levels” to it, attacking someone’s religious views isn’t really lower than attacking someone for who they are that’s unchangeable - their place of birth or color or gender or whatever. When one chooses to follow a religious faith (as we do), one accepts that there will be those who disagree and some of those are mean spirited. It’s been that way forever. Many religious folks do the exact same to those who choose different religions - or atheism. It’s wrong, but it’s still “life” and it’s a burden that comes with the faith - or non-faith.
One can’t choose their lot when it comes to racism, etc. It’s 100% birth lottery. That puts this form of meanness at the lowest level possible.
I think if Barr’s recent tweets were an aberration she might have been able to slide with a sincere apology. Unfortunately she has a history of problematic social media, including retweeting holocaust denial, and birtherism claims plus that lovely Susan Rice tweet.
Some do. Some who go further are roundly drummed out of their business, like Kevin Spacey. Others are still free after decades.
Go figure. Money and power talks and covers up…for now.
But that doesn’t mean we feign horror at a Roseanne Barr, already a polarizing comic, and allow a Joy Behar a free pass for her very similar incident a few months ago.
Some? There are obvious, flagrant examples of the hypocrisy in letting some well known men get away with such behavior.
Because most don’t think the incident with Joy Behar was “very similar.”
^^^Yes
Ambien manufacturer says “racism is not a known side effect”.
I just long for the days when Roseanne was a “domestic goddess” and was actually funny.
I think the incidents were similar in the respect that one individual was viciously attacked, and in doing so an entire group of people were attacked. But one person’s cruelty is minimized because it’s acceptable to attack certain groups, apparently.
I don’t know why these people can’t keep their rotten thoughts to themselves. They are only apologetic when there’s an uproar. These comments aren’t accidents or slips of the tongue, they are just mean people. Sometimes I feel like it’s Middle school all over again, starting from the top.
Speaking of hypocrisy, let’s not forget when Roseanne intentionally sang a screeching rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at a baseball game then spit on the ground. She still got plenty of work after that, while an NFL player cant silently kneel without getting basically banned from the game. Which do you think is more hypocritical? You know who must have forgotten Roseannes performance at the baseball game before becoming the self appointed National Anthem police.
The strangest ambien incident I’ve heard of was of a guy at my company at a layover hotel. He was a qualified, armed crew member. Hotel security got a phone call the there was a guy in his underwear walking around the hallway, weapon in hand. I guess he was making sure the area was safe. In his sleep…
I never thought I would seriously be part of an adult conversation where people questioning the hearing of disembodied voices voices they believe to be that of God (ie giving them some sort of divine power) to be as bad or worse than racism.
That’s certainly not anything learned in my undergrad and grad level psych classes. It is something the mentally ill patients my mom worked with in institutions for decades would have tried to say though.
I hope the actor who played DJ gets a shot at another show, if he would even like one.
And grabbed her crotch. Let’s not forget that either.
Kudos to ABC for standing up and doing the right thing. Never watched the original show or the remake. Her recondition of the STar Spangled Banner years ago was enough for me.
I’m agnostic. Seriously believing in God would be as difficult for me as believing in Santa Claus. However, I can’t imagine classifying those who feel that God speaks to them, or that they are led by God to live a certain type of life, or that God helps to direct them as mentally ill, or that they are hearing “disembodied voices” that “give them some sort of divine power”. There is a difference, and mocking people for their faith is pretty rude.
MODERATOR’S NOTE: And with this post, I’m closing the thread (see posts 42 and 44, which have been repeatedly ignored since).
