Ross BBA RD Notifications Class 2017

If you’re reapplying, honestly take one hard math/compsci/econ class, get an A in it and then take blow off courses you know you can get A’s in. I honestly think the A- in 401 and A/A+ in foreign language saved me because my other grades were mediocre (for Ross).

Thanks so much. My Econ and Cal are all transferred in from other schools. I think this was a negative. Only had 12 credits at Michigan and econ and calc at WCC (20 credits) because I could not get into the econ class. Took at Ross class (overseas) and did not do well–kids treated me differently because I was not a Ross student–hurt my participation grade. I passed in to Cal at WCC so I thought I would take it there. I took econ at a university and got an A. How did you know you would get in? You were confident? Did you get input on your essay? 3.3 at Michigan mostly history classes.

Does anyone have the link to the survey?? In my excitement, I didn’t get a chance to click the link!

I was confident because my whole app flowed together. My essays were about international consulting and the history classes and foreign language complemented that. I had a friend who wrote about starting a sustainability company or some BS like that because he took two classes on the topic, but he showed Ross that a BBA degree will help him accomplish that end goal.

I guess I will post my stats…

EC’s: obtained my license to sell insurance the summer before freshman year and continued to work a little bit during the school year, did a lot of volunteer work including regularly visiting a home for women who are mentally challenged and I joined a volunteer group at UM, I also worked in the dining hall… Didn’t do anything business related through the school… No business fraternities or clubs.

Essays: The one on why I wanted to go to Ross and what goals I wanted to accomplish… Very very good. I worked extremely hard on it. Talked about growing up in Michigan and living 20 minutes from Detroit and after I graduate I want to stay in Michigan help turnaround the state.
The one about our strengths and attributes… Good. Didn’t work as hard on this one as I did with the first one. Talked about how when I was growing up my dad got cancer and he couldn’t really be there for me because he was so sick. But when he was sick my baseball coaches were there for me to be father figures so when I finished my baseball career I wanted to return the favor so I started coaching little league. I did that for four years but I knew when I went to college I couldn’t really do that anymore so I started getting involved with a wide variety of volunteer projects. Talked about the volunteering I did and how I developed a passion for helping people. I think it was a good compliment to my other essay. Both talking about helping others.

I am a kid who got into UM by the skin of my teeth. Got deferred and was accepted. Just goes to show you if you’re given the opportunity and you work your butt off, great things can happen :)

Good luck to everyone else!

Hey, which earth science class did you take? I cannot find Earth Science 125

Decision: Accepted
Freshman applicant
Overall gpa: 3.84
Econ 101 A-
Econ 102 A-
Stats 250 A+
Eng 125 A-

Essays: Extracurricular essay- although I talked about a high school activity, the activity was beekeeping, which was probably unique and memorable
Why ross essay- good and sincere, but it felt generic. Talked about how I want to start a charitable organization.
ECs: no official leadership roles, but in the app I made it clear that I had an impact on the clubs that I was involved in.

pros: solid overall gpa, unique extracurricular essay, heavily revised essays, took Econ 102, did good enough in important classes

cons: took many easy classes (avoided taking calc, took two psychology classes and a dance class, took two stats classes even though I had AP stats credit), no work/internship experience, no specific theme or flow with my application (my ECs had nothing in common), no real leadership titles

thoughts: I really didn’t challenge myself with my course schedule, but got good grades in some quantitative classes, my essays weren’t amazing but they were genuine, well revised, and one of them was memorable which I think really helped me out. I was concerned because I didn’t write about a college EC, but my EC was unique so I went for it, even though I hadn’t continued it in any form at UMich. My app didn’t have flow, random ECs, no titles, but I think that I was able to demonstrate that I can impact whatever I am involved in.

@jen2016 it was Earth 125: evolution and extinction with tomasz baumiller. It was a 3 credit course. It was a very easy class. Almost too easy… Wouldn’t recommend it
