Ross freshman applicantt: What is a good GPA to be competitive?

Also, what if I only have one extracurricular that is a learning community and it doesn’t look much like an extracurricular at all? Most of my awards/ECs are from high school.

I also took EECS183 and Calc 1 first semester and I didn’t do so well in Calc 1, got a C+. I don’t know if that would hurt my application chances.

3.7+ GPA would be considered a good GPA. Anything less than 3.5 is probably too low.

I might be able to get a 3.5 after this semester ends. Should i still apply?

Yes, you should definitely apply if your GPA is in the 3.5 range. The odds won’t be good, but you have a fighting chance.

Thanks. I’m worried about extracurriculars though. I’m not in any clubs or frats, but I am in a learning community and I did a ton in high school. So for one of the essays asking about an activity, I will write about one in high school.

I need at least a B+ in Econ 101 :frowning:

I would write about the learning community. Try to avoid alluding too much to high school.

You sure? I was just a participant and I can write a lot more vividly about me tutoring an ESL student for four years in high school.
However, I can write about the learning community and relate it to that high school experience?

That works. Relating the learning community to your high school experience shows continuity.

Yay. Thank you so much! I will do that

As long as you make the GPA cutoff, they should carefully consider the rest of your application. You want to be able to articulate your interest and talk about your activities with substance. If you were doing certain activities simply to check boxes, they will be able to tell and that would not reflect positively.

However, if you did take any courses pass/fail, they will have access to the actual letter grade and recalculate your GPA based on that. In that case, the GPA on your transcript could be higher than the one they will be using to evaluate you.

Nope. Didn’t take any pass/fail.

What is the cutoff? 3.5?

That’s not the cutoff, but that’s where you should ideally be.
