I looked up ross preferred admit and though I did find a number of similar threads, there wasn’t one that was specifically results (or it was from the year before). So maybe we could start one now?
I’m applying in the fall and would love to get some idea on where I stand.

SAT 1500/2250
GPA top 20% at top 5 boarding school
Bunch of good business ec’s/awards
URM

I was class of 2006, though. We had 900 applicants for 60 spots. This year was about 2400 applicants for 100 spots. Probably going to be 3000+ apps next year.

thanks!
any more would be greatly appreciated.

-SAT 2170
-GPA Top 5%
-Many sports+ec’s
-Leadership qualities

Good luck for next year!

hmm. what type of ec’s? and how do you show leadership qualities… lol? idk, i try to write essays but i feel so weird saying i’m so good at interacting with people or whatever

I hated the essays also, very awkward. In my Ross PA essay, I pretty much sold myself indirectly as I explained how I came to the decision that I wanted to study business.

hmm. just out of curiosity, since there’s one essay about “what you want to study” for LSA, and then the Ross essay is “why you want to study business”… how do you differentiate? is the Ross essay more of a “Why Ross?”

you can leadership qualities with executive positions in student councils, athletic councils etc etc or bring editor of the school newspaper (at least thats all what I used). I also wrote down my tutoring commitements and math club.
I definitely agree, essays are really really challenging because you basically have to sell yourself, and at the same time, try to not sound too ostentatious.
barbara, if you notice, the lsa one is: what you want to study? and the ross one is why you want to study it? so i basically said in the lsa one that i want a liberal arts education supplemented by business and in the ross one- why i want to study business? what led me to it etc etc
Hope that helped! and anyways, what other schools are you applying to and what are your stats?

At Ross you are still going to be taking almost half your classes in LSA so you should be interested in some of the LSA stuff (I talked about Econ and Statistics). The Ross PA essay isn’t necessarily a “Why Ross” essay. It’s basically used to make sure that they are giving a spot to someone who would thrive in a business school. Though, if you have some specific/unique reasons for wanting to study at Ross specifically, you should definitely include them.

yeah, i’m definitely really interested in political science/economics/international relations… those are my likely majors for some of the schools i’m interested in that do not have undergrad b-schools.

well, um not to turn this into a chances thread but i’m an asian girl from arizona, 4.0, SAT: 2380, 11/699 rank at smart public school, speech and debate captain, vice-president of youth in gov’t, will be on studco for senior year, founded a club, tutor, volunteer at autistic center, held a job most of my junior year, and 2-time congressional intern.

not toooo business-related but i think (hope?) gov’t relates closely to business. business is still my bigger interest, though. penn, gtown, berkeley, wustl are just a few of my other schools. im really interested in michigan for the big state school atmosphere combined with academic challenges. ross being the third-ranked undergrad business school helps a little too. :-)

Yeah, you don’t necessarily need business EC’s if your essay effectively conveys your interest in business. With those stats/ec’s, I like your chances.
