I heard today that a new record has been set for the month of April for tornadoes in the U.S.

We’ve been spared in the upper midwest, but I did just hear an interview with the mayor of Tuscaloosa, AL, and when asked by the reporter if there was any damage at U-Alabama, he said they hadn’t been able to make it over to the campus yet, but they’d heard there was damage.

Of course I thought of any CC parents who might have kids at the college and am hoping they’re all OK.

I hadn’t heard about the Tuscaloosa tornado until I saw your post, teriwitt. I just called my friend, whose son is a student there. “He saw the tornado coming towards him, but it turned north, towards the hospital, less than 1/4 mile from campus,” was how he described it.

Just saw your thread after chatting with someone about the Tuscaloosa tornado and seeing photos of the U of A campus. POwer outages and deaths reported in Tuscaloosa, but the campus is generally intact. [Weather Advisory - The University of Alabama](<a href=“Page Not Found | The University of Alabama”>Page Not Found | The University of Alabama) The storm is heading through Birmingham (Home of U of A B’Ham) an on to Rome GA (home of Berry College). It seems to be tracking college towns!

Reports are showing the worst of it going north of here, in the Rome, GA
area. Stay tuned. Weather emergency reports keep interrupting American Idol!

Batting down the hatches in Atl tonight. Berry college got hit pretty hard earlier today- some of the old “log” buildings badly damaged by falling trees.

Wow! I just watched video on MSN of someone from U-Alabama filming the tornado as it came towards him. It’s a two-minute clip, and he doesn’t speak, but is breathing very, very heavy, and fast. I kept thinking, if you’re this scared, what the heck are you doing standing right by the window?

I thought of all of you when watching the news tonight. May the campus and everyone associated with the University be spared of heartache and damage.

Hope everyone stays safe today. Here in the NY area, we’ve gone from freezing cold and rainy to 80 degree weather. Just skipped over Spring entirely.
