Route to Colgate University

How does one travel from Bergen County to Colgate University? What is the best route to take without traveling near the mountain edge? Thanks

It looks very straighforward to me. Trust Google maps in this case. https://www.google.com/search?q=bergen+County+to+Colgate+University&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Mapquest gives the same routing: https://www.mapquest.com/directions/from/us/nj/bergen-county-282934658/to/us/new-york/colgate-university-282797616

We usually rely on Google maps, sometimes on Waze, and sometimes (less often) on Apple Maps.

We’ve used Google maps to get there before. However, I am petrified of mountain edges since I am not used to them.

What “mountain edge” are you talking about?

The “mountains” in NY State are very old and gentle. They don’t sneak up on you! Routes suggested by google are multilane interstates. There will be no “edges” to worry about.

Maybe, this is an irrational fear that I am experiencing We have used Google maps to arrive to our destination before. Please understand that I am a foreigner and not accustomed to dealing with mountains, including their edges. I heard that buses take a separate route to arrive there!

it would help us if you said which part of the route disturbed you before (if I am correct in reading your comments).

I’ve been to Colgate. Although you will go through some hilly areas, do not worry. There will be nothing like this:

Lehigh, that’s another story.

Remember, roads tend to follow water ways and avoid mountains. Route 17 through the Catskills is a beautiful road, divided highway with a shoulder and guard rails. My wife is from Bergen County and we lived up that direction for 10 years and drove it at least once each month. The only bad time was during an ice storm one January. Drive during daylight and enjoy.

The 2-lane roads from Deposit mostly roll through the farmlands. I was a bicycle racer back in the day and did all of those miles on two wheels. I really miss it.

I think 80 to Scranton then 81 N is way more scary with all the traffic. It’s more highway but construction and not great roads.

II recently drove up to that area, and I took Highway 17. Beautiful drive, but if you are concerned about the mountains, an alternate route would be I-87 north to Albany, then 90 West, then I-88 west until you exit for US-20 West. It takes longer but should avoid the curves on Hwy 17.

I’ve driven Route 17 to Colgate dozens of times, between childhood visits to Colgate with my parents, visiting a college boyfriend and then visiting my son- there are no “mountain edges”. Some gently rolling hills that are basically bumps. Really. Watch out for cows.

Thank you for all of your imput. I appreciate your help.
