My kid is also from MA and huge hockey fan. I share your concern about the number of comments relating to intense rigor at RPI. We will visit in March and try and get a feel for it then I guess. Worried he wont find his people and it will be constant grind.
FYI, we just got back from a visit to RPI and while I don’t think S25 is totally sold on the school yet, there was a lot to like. Wanted to recommend Little Peeps (a sort of cafe space downtown) to folks who might be planning a visit. The breakfast burrito was large and hearty.
D25 got RD acceptance. No merit (yet). Makes RPI most expensive acceptance . Our daughter is happy
D25 got RD acceptance. Can you please share any insights about grading curve
Congratulations! I know the curriculum at RPI is challenging and grading can be tough but many have been successful in getting into Dean’s list. We will visit RPI soon and find out more. Good luck.
D25 was also accepted. We did not see her merit letter initially…you had to scroll way down to to the bottom of the letter where there were links for FA and something else. They were actually very generous. She got 2 leadership scholarships totalling 39,500 in merit per year for her 5 year program.
thank you for sharing. I checked now. nothing yet. I will watch for that section. Congratulations to your daughter.
its also much easier to see on a computer than a phone. it is on their portal page as a link and at the bottom of their actual acceptance letter as a link.
Thank you so much for sharing. D25 portal is updated today with Merit Aid. We are happy to see the updates and does bring down our costs more than what we expected. It is still an expensive college for us.
We are visiting RPI soon !!
Have a great visit. It is a hidden gem. My son who is a sophomore at RPI had lots of choices. I was quite surprised by when he chose RPI, but he is very happy and thriving there. Your D25 has a great option in RPI! Good luck!
Is anyone going to admitted students day this weekend? We will be there, and I am hoping this stays at the top of D25’s list.
My kid is already a student at RPI, so I won’t be there. I can recommend a few places: Eat at one of the restaurants on the river in Troy (Dinosaur or Browns). Ask for a table with a view of the river. The famous Farmer’s Market will be going on Saturday. It’s indoors at this time of year, but spring through fall it’s outdoors and it’s simply amazing. It’s so much fun and students really love it. I think it’s worth some time taking the #87 bus to Walmart to show your student how easy it is. There’s a stop right next to the Freshman dorms on Freshman Hill. Eat in the dining hall if you can (you can pay with a credit card). Their food really is amazing. I have another kid at another name-brand engineering school. The food there really is awful. She likes to visit RPI and always stops at the dining halls for the food quality and selection. Let me know if you have any questions. We love RPI!
Thank you! Those are great suggestions!
My husband and I are RPI alums, and now our kid is considering attending this year as well.
We are here today for admitted students day . Our daughter is excited
Have a great time. Ask a lot of questions. Everyone is so nice.
We were there too. My daughter is almost ready to commit. It was definitely worth the trip for her to feel confident that she will be happy there.
