RPI vs Rutgers for Mechanical Engineering?

Rutgers Engineering or RPI for Mechanical Engineering? Why? Thanks.

Both are fine ABET accredited programs.

Are they both comfortably affordable? If so, do you prefer the environment at one college?

Are they both affordable without parental loans?
Would you prefer a STEM-focused college or a large university with all majors?
Which may bother you more, Rutgers’ split campus with buses to go from class to class, or the gender imbalance at RPI?

RPI works best for a student with a decided preference for a tech-oriented environment. Absent this decided preference, an alternative choice may be suitable. Nonetheless, whichever may the case, RPI has a history of being highly regarded for engineering.

One other point of note in addition to what you read above. I couldn’t find it on RPI’s website but through USNews and College Factual - they report the gender diversity of 69% male/31% female. Engineering may be male dominated at Rutgers too but you have the overall school in back up.

Rutgers: Many majors/minors to explore if not completely sure the engineering will be the final goal. D1 sports. Large campus to navigate. Easy to visit NYC.

RPI: Smaller easy to navigate campus. Closest city is Albany. Tech focused campus and student body. Mixed reviews of ARCH program.
