no packet yet over here either.

Daniel

none here as well.

same here… but APs are over, finally! ::rejoices::

ugh still a few more APs for me . . . and then I can have more time to obsess over RSI :D

Hi! I know there is no way of really telling, but would anyone mind telling me if I have an okay shot of getting into RSI? I am currently a sophomore.
SAT I: 1600 (will take new one in the fall)
Sophomore PSAT: 233 (I would have gotten a full score but I bubbled the wrong answer for two on the math section)
AMC 12: Haha…I was sick that day and got sick during the the test. Needless to say, I didn’t do well, and that was the second test date. I have never taken math contests before. Honestly, I’m not that great at math as far as competitions.
Qualified for the American Junior Academy of Sciences last year as a fresh…grand prize as well as first place in biochem.
Qualified for 2005 ISEF (grand prize in region). Didn’t win any awards there.
Won grand prize in region and was a DCYS semifinalist in 2003 (does 8th grade count?)
Did all my research completely on my own with no outside help (worked on lactose intolerance).
Ranked 1 of 569 in my IB class. Next year there will be 1300 people in my class b/c of two schools combining.
Have taken biology I, chemistry I, algebra I and II, and geometry so far. I will take precal, honors physics, and IB chem II next year.
President of LASER science club (I absolutely love science).
This summer: 1 week physics camp, 1 week women’s comp sci camp, 1 week women’s engineering camp (all free). One week in NYC for a DNA course. I was not accepted to any internships I applied to this year. Will work/intern at the petrochemical company that my dad works for testing software. I will also work on an engineering research project.

Sorry for the long post. You’ll probably become bored before finishing it. I know my credentials aren’t great (especially since I’m a South Asian girl); just tell me what you think. Thank you.

Sorry…left out my questions in that uber long post.

whoa, whoa there!
don’t start thinking that anyone here knows one thing about RSI admissions! Because we don’t… Even if I was on the RSI admissions board, I couldn’t offer you a very good opinion because what you’ve listed here is only a small part of the total application…
That said, I’m sure most would agree with me that there doesn’t seem to be any glaring reason that would get you rejected. Do what you love! and make sure you express yourself in the essays. Good luck!

also, regarding the “especially since I’m a South Asian girl” comment, RSI doesn’t really care about that very much(not as much as a college at least). so once again, you have a great shot, good luck!

mm hmm rsi doesn’t really factor in race/sex, but they do care about geographic representation.

I asked Matt McGann what the secret to RSI admissions was (kinda jokingly though) and he said he likes question number #2 a lot (obviously) and prior experience is good. However, I know some people got in this year without prior experience. It’s all about WHO you are, and how good you are at what you like to do. I don’t think RSI admissions can be altered by whoring yourself to them by doing things that will “look good.” That can work for college, not RSI. But I think you should find an interest and run with it (internships, SW, etc).

I know nothing about admissions. My new theory is that I’m the last-minute let’s-make-the-number-of-admittees-of-each-gender-even (as in even/odd, not equal) admittee, because they wanted to minimize the number of rooms needed. But so far as statistics/experience, your application will be much more impressive than mine was. I wouldn’t ask anyone for essays if I were you… I bet yours will end up better and more original if you have no clue what you’re “supposed” to say Anyway, don’t worry about it! especially so early! ^^

I guess I’m a little bit late for the introductions, but I’ll have a go at it anyways. My name’s Andrew, I’m interested in physics and engineering, and I look forward to meeting everyone this summer.

fRiT0,
didn’t you post that you were rejected on the Research Science Institute 2005 thread?

Thank you for all your posts. You are all so sweet (and smart)! I’m not really a “whore” to what admissions people want; I guess I just panicked after I saw the AMAZING kids at ISEF who took multivariable calculus and plasma physics in fourth grade, and I wrote a frantic post (: detailing my life. Btw, flierdeke, that was good advice about the essay- it is important to just write like myself. Anyways, thank you again for your encouragement, and good luck to everyone going this year!

tsr, I did. Naturally I spent some time being pretty bummed about it, but I got over it after a few days. Lo and behold, a week or two later I get a call from the CEE saying that there had been a problem with my application (not sure what, something to do with standardized testing score verification I think b/c I sent a copy of my ACT score, not an official report). They looked into it and once everything was sorted out they sent a letter offering me admission. I have to give the people at the CEE props for being so kind, understanding, and thorough as they do their jobs… otherwise I wouldn’t be going.

Sweet, another person from St. Louis.

hi fRiT0! That’s really weird about your application, but at least they figured it out and you get to go to RSI!

Yeah, I’m just excited to be going. I hope that I’ll be one of the lucky few who is put in contact with a mentor prior to the start of RSI. It’d be nice to be able to read up on some stuff before I get there.

Heh, that’s awesome Andrew… can’t wait to meet ya (and everyone else) this summer!

Does anyone know if anyone got in from Kansas last year? =D, just curious.

whoa there, kansas you say?! I would actually like to know that too! I’m just itching to find another kansas rickoid. Why the interest sentient89? are you from kansas?
