My school starts later than most schools – I think it was september 13th this year… Well, long story short, we try to maximize the amount of time students get to use as preparation for AP exams so our school has almost all kids take the “late exam,” but what’s even weirder is that there is in fact even one more date that is even later, for people who had conflicts with the late testing. Because of this, I’m taking computer science AB on the 24th, because it was scheduled for the same time as BC Calc… back to studying…

Haha vanilea, it was great meeting you too!!! The RSI people (both '05 and '06) are really friendly and awesome, so I’m really excited about this summer :)! Oh yeah, and congrats to everyone who placed at ISEF!

ushistory is really easy. wish me luck for ap chem tomorrow!

Hi everyone ![]()
I will be at RSI 2006 too
My name is Vladimir Marinov and I’m from Bulgaria
I will do research in Computer Science (at least I will try)
I hope we all will have a great time together during the six weeks :)

hey vladimir!

That’s neat Zfrankel. My US history teacher was saying that the form B test was really easy compared to the form A test (that I took) so I hope your test went alright. Sorry about not posting sooner, but I’m getting into the last week of school so teachers are going crazy, loading us with work before they lose us for the summer = P

Hey everyone
My name is Jad and Im from Lebanon
I will be at RSI this summer to do a research in number theory
Hope well have a good time

Hey Zogoto! I’ll have the same mentor as you did last year :D! I hope he’s good. Would you have any suggestions on working with him?

Wow, i feel so out of loop. i hadn’t even realized this website existed. i would use the excuse that i’m from Idaho and we never know what’s going on, but the other Idaho rickoid happens to a be an active member…dang it!!

Name:
State: Idaho!!!
GPA/rank: 4.3/4.4 maybe? semester’s not done yet. 1 out of 400
SAT: PSAT 230, SAT 2300 (800 math and writing), Math I 780, Math II 800, Biology 770, Physics 800, just took ushistory, 35 ACT
AP’s: 5 on Calc ab(8th), calc bc(9th), chem(8th), bio(9th), env. sci.(10th), physics b(10th), mech(9th), e&m(9th), and this year took stats, language, ushistory, and macroecon
Extracurriculars/Offices: varsity track, used to varsity wrestle (most energy-consuming sport there is, so i quit for obvious reasons), cross country, everything to do with piano from competing to accompanying, treasurer of boise philharmonic’s teenage volunteer organization, coordinator for lunch buddies mentoring program
Fields/Subfields of research: mechanical engineering i guess
Research experience: i worked on some bioacoustic stuff last summer, and i’ve been doing some stuff with soccer balls this spring. i feel like an outcast for not having done ISEF or anything like that.
What you think got you in: I think what set me apart from others is my AP scores. that’s my only national claim to fame and the only thing i still feel good about after having read about what everyone else has done. also, my calculus teacher, who loves me, wrote me an extremely glowing recommend. (i will be getting her some big present, but i’ll wait till after she writes me all my college recommends
)

vanilea how do you know who your mentor is?

Hey Spudman!
I was so excited when i heard that there was another rickoid from Idaho this year. I think i recognize your name from somewhere (probably winning some competition
). And hey, your APs are great! Did you self-study a lot? Why couldn’t you have gone to my school?

well, i was in classes for calc, bio, and chem. my dad’s an AP physics teacher so i had that stuff covered. and for environmental science, i just kinda read a review book and took the test, which was pretty much common sense.

which review book did u use

barrons has way too much info

i did use barron’s, in fact. and you’re right, there is way too much information in it. i never read the whole thing, though. what really helped was just taking old tests and figuring out from them what type of material might be on it, and luckily it was simple broad stuff like global warming and the like. but if you know your biology, chemistry, earth science, and just some important human environmental events, you’re pretty much guaranteed a 5.

my mentor emailed me. he’s the same mentor that zogoto had, so that seems really positive :D!!!

has*

lol

Are you going to participate in RSI for second time?

I’ve continued my mentorship for the past 10 months.

Thanks for the correction.
I’m planning on emailing Gil today or so. I’m going to take my laptop to RSI, but I wondering if there is anything else that I should bring.

a change of clothes is always a good idea. a blanket if you really want one, but boston gets hot in the summer. other than that… :-P

Seriously, though, for the international students and anyone else who likes or needs to pack light: you’ll get WAY more money on your card than you need for food, and you can use the extra to buy things like detergent, toiletries, hangers, paper/pencils/etc., phone cards, pots and pans, and the like at LaVerde’s, the little grocery store in the student center. So there’s really no need to pack that sort of stuff. If you do you will end up like I did… perfectly well fed, but using the extra >$400 to buy candy for strangers on the last day. (“Everyone in line, you’re on my card, can’t use it after tomorrow, and why don’t you have some dessert?”)

P.S. The Coop is now rumored to take TechCash.
