RSI 2006 Introductions

i kind of wished I had your problem because I now want my second field more than my first…yes…indecisiveness…another negative trait.
Btw, this is to rickoids, after RSI, do you guys get together or have reunions and the likes?

I don’t know if I should. I don’t care too much about my two fields either, since they overlap by quite a bit(math v computer science) though I’d prefer the first one.

Are you typing up anything additional about your research?

Does anyone that went to RSI before know what the switching of the fields is about?

i don’t know that much about neigher one of my fields, but I guess that i’ll compensate for that with lack of sleep!

I think I will type up some more stuff because it’s due on the 30th and that’s after I get out of school…and I should have time. It will probably be beneficial for mentor-matching. But now I’m not sure if I should type up stuff for my 1st or 2nd field…

Isn’t it due on the 5th? The form says due on 5th but 30th above that…I am sort of confused.

Vanilea,

If you go to “Jump to Album” at top left you can see photos from 2003, 2004 and 2005 RSI.

I thought that the form and additional research info was due on the 5th and the dates for the rest of the forms were the 16th and the 30th. Is that right or am I just demented? I was going to try to type some extra stuff before I mailed it tomorrow. (yay for procrastination!)

oh btw, are you guys mailing your local newspapers? :p

i didn’t, did you?

nope; I figure everyone already knew I was a nerd.

Hey, has anyone sent in the form with the picture yet. My mother seems convinced that we need a real head shot taken – I’m not. Is anyone else just planning on sending in some random picture taken on a digital camera? I’m guessing they just use this to identify us, but perhaps they use it for publications etc…

A random shot is fine–it should just show your face clearly. The counselors use the photos to learn all your faces before you get there (it’s kind of creepy actually… you’ll show up, and they’ll know you by name)… but the main purpose is the face wall, which you’ll learn more about later :)

To the best of my knowledge, they don’t use those for any publications–counselors will actually take formalish pictures of you during RSI for use in any formal publications. I remembered the picture requirement the morning the forms were due postmarked, self-timered a bad picture with my hair wet, uploaded it, printed a few copies, and forgot to let the ink dry before mailing it. No one kicked me out ;)

their dates are all mixed up! grrrrrrr…

so how did everyone think of the physics aps? mech was hard and e&m was EASY. i thought it was supposed to be the other way around.

is anyone else going to ACSL in cincinatii?

does anyone know how to spell cinncinnatii?

I thought mech was ok – MC was hard, FR was easy. cincinnati?

Hey, did anyone take the bio/compsci/U.S. history APs yet – mine are next week and I want to know how they were

i took bio and us history…
im horrible at history and didnt’ study for it…so i prolly got a 4…and then bio was alright.

Does anybody know where to get the 1831 edition (why would they make us read that edition?) of Frankenstein? Every book I’ve looked at is the 1818 edition. I actually started reading the book I bought before I realized it was the 1818 edition. I thought 1831 was the only edition published at first.

Hey, Hey, I’m back from ISEF, and it was such a great time! I miss everyone that I met already. The funfest party at union station was definitely crunk and off the hook (and I bet some isef babies were made that night given the number of hookups). It was great to meet you corina, we had a fun time navigating back to our hotels!!! The breakfast at TGI fridays was chill too. I look even more forward to seeing everyone this summer!
BTW, while we were on the subject of pictures, is there a way i can see a picture of any of you? If you pm me i can send u my myspace url.

I found the 1831 edition at Barnes and Noble, highskoolstudent. I looked through about 5 different copies before I found it, though. ZFrankel, I took US history AP (overall, okay), but how are you taking the tests two weeks later than the rest of the country?

quote

Out of curiosity, I tried googling “1831 1818 frankenstein edition differences.” Turns out there are people devoting large portions of their lives to a study of the differences between the editions. Finding that rather depressing, I won’t post links and quotes, but apparently Shelley did make some significant changes. You could, of course, read the 1818 edition and then try to distract the lecturer into a discussion of the two editions. If you’re into that sort of thing ;)

Did you guys get any reading about other monsters? Is that the theme? I sort of feel bad for y’all… Frankenstein is, like, serious. At least we got to watch Soylent Green and discuss how “people generally don’t eat other people” instead of all this literary stuff :)
