rsi will pretty get you into any school but harvard
harvard is just picky like that cuz they can be

so i shouldn’t have done gov’s school
should’ve chose rsi

cujoe, where in nj are you from? just curious

it’s not RSI that gets you into the most prestigious college, it’s the caliber of the rickoids themselves. RSI is just icing on a cake. The participants could’ve gotten into the Harvard on their own if RSI didn’t exist. (RSI just helps)

Ubercollegeman phrase it very clearly in a previous post:

"It’s not really that Rickoid->MIT. In reality, the only reason you’d probably get selected for RSI is if you were going to get into MIT (as well as the other top schools) anyway.

It would be like saying, ‘OH MY GOD! ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD TEAM ALWAYS MAKE MIT!’ "

it’s not like RSI helped you get into ANY college you want. It’s the people who get into RSI and their stats and achievements that can get them into ANYWHERE.

hunterdon county* thanks…

I partially disagree with you, static. True, most Rickoids could get into whatever college they wanted if RSI didn’t exist, but sometimes the admissions process is all too random, or some adcom might have been having a bad day or something, and if RSI didn’t exist, they might overlook the person. But the words “Research Science Institute” on the application is like insurance. So yes, probably 95% of the time Rickoids could get in if RSI didn’t exist, but sometimes it just makes sure they’re not overlooked.

i agree with zogoto
the other thing is that rsi provides a distinguishing achievement for the applicant
everyone who goes to rsi would make the cut in harvard admissions
but for lots of us, including me, i think rsi provided the motive for becoming an admit instead of a deferral

so governor’s school basically has no worth… wow that was a waste of time

Of course it has worth, it’s just that not only pure geniuses/extremely lucky people get into it. People on CC tend to only focus on the superelite programs because that’s all they care about (and consequently a lot of people get disappointed when they get rejected and are too egotistical to settle for anything less).

It is interesting that you type that, Static. Last year, I believe to remember you being very insistent that RSI = MIT.

ya…but people change don’t they?
