rsi vs. governor's school...

which looks better?

Definately RSI

RSI hands down.

What kinda question is this?!?!?! GOVERNOR’S SCHOOL. Ok let me ask a rhetorical question: Would you rather be made fun of and be called a “rickoid” or become governor one day. By going to governor’s school, you will have one of the most amazing experiences of your entire life. RSI can hardly promise anything like it. Colleges will see that you chose the thing that promised a better experience, governor’s school, rather than the nerdy and made-for-looking-good-on-college-apps RSI, and they will respect that. Some people say RSI = MIT, but I beg to differ. Governor’s School hands down. It really takes a twisted demented soul to try to tell this poor kid asking for help to go to RSI. All you kids are bastards for trying to trick him like this. Go to Governor’s school.

Just kidding.

haha, yea, i already applied to gov’s school, but i’m worried i won’t get in… 206 psats… in nj… but i have 5’s on ap physics and chem and an 800 in math ii and a 4.6 gpa rank 20/450… is that good enough for the school of science?

i really hope you were just kidding zogoto

just curious, which states have governor’s schools. they don’t have them in cali right? are they very prestigious?

North Carolina has it. It’s moderately hard to get into, but not super-ultra hard like RSI. I think 2 kids from my county went for acedemics, and a bunch (6-8) went for band (for reference there are about 2600 HS students in the county, and governor’s school is primarily for juniors); in North Carolina governor’s school tends to emphasize band/arts much more than acedemics. I would have had a much better shot if my freshman grades were better.

so… would they stack up comparably? or does rsi kick gov’s school ass

I would say RSI is considered much more prestigious than Governor’s School (as far as NC goes anyway). Hundreds of kids go to Governor’s School in this state, I can probably count the RSI kids using my digits. Of course RSI is also much more difficult to get into, and unlike Governor’s School you really need to have done something significant to be considered competitive. Many people I know who went to Governor’s School were just really good at an instrument and/or smart.

sisi chen, Siemens Westinghouse Regional Finalist at GATech, turned down governor’s school for RSI04.

Kentucky also has Governer’s school… about 10 students each year from my school go to the academics and about 5 go to the arts… i think there is about 750 students that are in my grade… it’s easier to get in the academics here because not many students apply…

I sent in an nj gov school application, and me and my parents had to sign a thing that said if accepted I agree to participate for the whole term and stuff. But now I am more interested in RSI, and the dates clash. What will happen if i tell them i want to go to RSI instead? Will I HAVE TO go to gov school now even if i get accepted into RSI?

I don’t know how it is there, but here if you get accepted and can’t/don’t want to go if you notify early enough they just pass on the admission to person who was next in line in the county. But don’t bank too heavily on getting into RSI, they only accept a handful of students from each state every year.

Thanks. I dont think im gonna get accepted into RSI anyway…

please try to apply; don’t let anything stops you from trying though!!

The only way you know for sure if you don’t get in is if you don’t send in an application.

I will apply, I just don’t want to get my hopes up. I can hope for the best I guess.

ahh so general consensus… gov’s school looks really good, but rsi is like… really really good? haha can’t articulate my words too well today

Let me put it this way: people who get into RSI can generally get into whatever college they want (has anybody in RSI ever been turned down by MIT?). People who go to Governor’s school here are smart, but certainly aren’t always a lock for the Top 25.

Rickoids sometimes get rejected from MIT, but you need to do something really bad like commit a felony and get sentenced to life in prison. Sometimes RSI alums get mad when you say that RSI = MIT though.
