Rumba questions

I have decided I want to buy a Rumba. Costco has a model that friends really like.
Opinions about them in general or specific?
No pets. Mainly I cook often and get tired of my kitchen floor needing to be vacuumed.
I hate vacuuming more that cleaning the bathroom.
If I am honest I will admit I vacuum about twice a year as H does it but right now he
cannot…so thinking of a rumba.

A Roomba won’t vacuum dried spills. You need a wet mop version specific for kitchen and bathrooms.

Okay, someone has to say it: I thought this was going to be a thread about Latin dancing. :-*

I have an older Rumba. Haven’t used it for a while because right now I have a weekly cleaning person. I loved it when I used it alot. The model I have is supposed to be able to go over electric cords and go between carpets and floors etc, and it did pretty good, but once in a while got stuck. It is a bit like a vacuuming toddler, in fact I called it the “toddler” in that it had a way of finding things you didn’t know were there and getting all caught up in a mess. For example, it found a ball of yarn that was under my daughter’s bed and got yarn all twisted up in the rollers that took some time to cut out. It actually did an amazing job, the collection bin would get full of dust and dirt and fuzz. Cleaning long hair off the rollers was a pain. It’s actually a pretty amusing product, especially if toddlers make you laugh more than cry.

Roomba! Or are we dancing along?

We have a Miele roomba. It is pretty decent at picking up dry stuff. Does not do wet or dried on spills… but that’s what the cats are for.

The nice thing about Costco - they will take it back if you don’t like it.

iRobot has a mop sweeper specifically for floors that need to be mopped. It’s square, not round, and is actually a little cheaper than the traditional Roomba. Check out BB&B for your 20% off coupon.

We love our Roomba so much we gave two for our house and each of our kids has their own at their respective lodgings. We run it regularly because we HATE cleaning but love floors that don’t have grit. I love buying from Costco since they’re good about returns if you have any issues or don’t like it.

It really helps reduce dust and grit. We have whatever models Costco stocked and never paid extra for the one that squirted water — we just want it to get loose debris. We have hardwood floors and sheet vinyl. My brother and SIL have carpet. We both love it.

iRobot used to make a round floor mopper called Scooba. It was not that great apparently. Now they make this:

Reviews seem to be positive.

I’ve been considering one, but I don’t like the fact the newer versions are WiFi-enabled and, while the Roomba is working, it maps your house and sends it back to HQ. What they do with that info, I don’t know.

^^Oh good to know. Not a fan of that! I am keeping my Miele roomba then because it is “semi-dumb”.

Here’s a link to one article, re: house mapping, in the NY Times:

All good information! Thanks.
Also, of course I meant Roomba!
I am going for it. Will buy from Costco and try it out.

I’m with MommaJ . . . .

Update. Mr Roomba and I are best friends. I like to talk to him. He is doing a good enough job.
I have figured out how to trap him in a room such as the study and return 40 minutes later to a spotless job.
He is perfect for between real vacuuming. I just wish he could talk to me… :)).
Absolutely recommend but remember you might get a Mrs.

He came from Amazon for $324.99. 690 model.Same one Target has for $374.99. Costco was
$399.00.
I would like the 860 that is $499 and this is great to begin with
and eventually D and SIL will adopt the 690 and we will upgrade.

Glad it’s wotking for you—we love our two, as do our kids.

We have whatever model costco was selling last year and love it. Carpet to hardwood no problem. Have it programmed to run every three days.

Her name is Kankles.
Started with ankles, because she would attack your ankles if you were in her way.
But DD, whose name begins w letter K, decided that Kankles was more fun!

Speaking of the Rhumba, here’s listening treasure for fans of Jesse Winchester and those who have yet to discover him. Rhumba Man sprang into my inner ear the moment I saw the thread title! :x

LOL, I actually was trying to figure out what makes the Rumba portion of the ice dancing a rumba so I thought I was finally going to get an answer!

I gave my son a Roomba - it’s still in the box. He thinks he’d need to pick up too much of the floor to use it.

Tell your son all he needs to do is pick up stuff and throw in on a chair or the bed.
