Rumor on Reddit that Northwestern University is switching from need-blind to need-aware for transfer students. Can anyone confirm this ?
Also noticed that only the theatre major is (usually) not available to transfer students due to rarity of openings in this top rated major.
Well their website already says this:
Financial aid is awarded on the basis of need, but is dependent upon availability of funds.
Transferring to Northwestern: Undergraduate Admissions - Northwestern University

Yes, I am aware of the statement on Northwestern’s website, so I am just checking out a rumor floating around the internet today.
I mean, if it’s only avail on the basis of funds, they can’t be need blind - can they?
If they run out of funds, they’d have to reject you. Or they might be rationing to begin with.
Or am I mis understanding.
It seems to me they already are need aware based on that statement. Am I wrong?
All schools have limited funds available each admissions cycle for financial aid, yet many are “need-blind” regarding the admissions decision.
At many schools, one can be admitted, but placed on a wait-list for financial aid funds.
Although not sure, my impression was that NU was always need-aware for transfer admissions. Started this thread because other internet sites touting it as a very recent change from need-blind to need-aware.
OK - I guess I’m mistaking meets need for need blind.
Like - we won’t look at how much you need to admit you, but we are not meets need.
My error.
Thanks
Please list such schools. If a school says they guarantee to meet full need for all accepted students…you wouldn’t be on a waitlist for aid. Northwestern meets full need…do they do this for transfers?
