Running a marathon

I do track and Cross Country, and now that the track season is about to end in about a month, I’ve been thinking about summer training. I run sponsered for a local running store, and we meet 3days a week for workouts. Along with that I do 3 other days on my own. I’ve been thinking of some races I want to do, and decided to go big this year, and do the “LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon.” It’s in October, and getting close to preparing. This is the first time I’ve ever went this high. Does anyone have any trainging tips or race day tips?

Thanks

Don’t get wasted the night before and remember the three most important things of distance running: hydration, hydration, hydration.

Read some sites about it. I might be attempting one sometime in the fall too, and there are lots of good training plans out there for you. Make sure you have long runs of at least 20 miles in.

Edit: Obviously build up to once a week 20 mile runs, and take it down to 2-4 mile days for a week before the marathon. And everyone does it regardless of how many times they’ve heard this, but don’t take it out too hard.

oh yeah. Don’t drink too much water during the run. There was a case of some amateurs who died because they drank too much during the race (drinking water is okay, but just not TOO much).

That would suck dying running a marathon. It would make for a blooper reel though. (sarcasm)

hyponatremia

Typically it would suck dying in any situation.

I’ve got to agree with uc_benz on this one… Dying is generally unpleasent. It can really ruin one’s day!
