Running teams

What are the running teams at the university generally looking for in terms of possible new members? My body probably won’t come through for me, but I’m curious about tryouts.

Hi Islander,

Cornell traditionally has a pretty strong team within the Ivy’s. To see how you’re doing, you should check their athletic site and go to track or cross country - check their rosters and compare your times to the times of the freshmen there or to their high school times. You can get a pretty good idea for how you might stack up.

You might also want to take a look at the threads on the Athletic Recruit forum under College Admissions - lots of good information there. Good luck!

I just looked up the times and I’m sickened to say the least. I’m done with competitive track for good it seems.

same here. I’m thinking, maybe, club.

Keep those endorphins primed!

trouble is if you were involved with track but not running distances. I used to do sprinting events, I was good enough that people would ask if I was going to run somewhere in college, but I knew from the start I was giving that up coming to Cornell. (TOTALLY worth it, btw, but those are the facts…)

consider the club if you like running long distance. During the time I was in it, they accepted a wide range of speeds by dividing up into as much as 5 speed/distance groups. We have a very good running club and I would highly recommend it for those that are non-competitive and even competitive (they frequently go to races in other schools)

i considered joining during sophomore year. At that time i was in the low 5 minutes/mile range and could keep that pace for up to about 7 or 8 miles. but the running team often goes for 10, and some of the time the pace was faster than that.

i always considered myself as ‘fast’ and ‘in shape,’ but i never felt so slow and lacking endurance in my life! it’s a great team.

^ BlueDevilBBall, your 5K time must have been pretty fast
