Rushing Greek System

I have been dreaming to go to UCLA forever. Now that my dream has finally become reality, I have to get down to business. My question is for UCLA students who are involved/knowledgeable about the Greek System and/or certain Fraternities.

A) I want to get involved as soon as possible but I wanted to know what type of toll rushing fall semester of Freshman year would take on my studies. Is it possible to rush and still survive academically?

B) I am interested in rushing ZBT (legacy). I know that choosing a fraternity is not an algorithm, sometimes it is an intangible feeling. I am curious, however, what ZBT’s reputation is on campus.

Thanks.

Rush is just the process of the houses picking pledges. For guys it’s not difficult at all, and is mainly just visiting different houses and getting free food.

Pledging, however, can be fairly difficult depending on which house you pledge. In terms of time, think of it as taking an extra class. It’s possible to do well GPA-wise – I know quite a few people that got above a 3.5 during pledge quarter. On the other hand, I also know a lot of people that bombed. It’s really about being organized more than anything.

ZBT is good at UCLA – probably a top 5 house. I would still rush a good number of houses, four or five or so, and then go from there.
