Russian Authors

This summer, I’ve really begun to enjoy reading Tolstoy, Chekhov, etc. I’ve just finished Gooseberries and The Steppe. I was wondering if any of you had ever read Fathers and Sons, by Turgenev? If so, what did you think of it? Did you like or dislike it?

I read Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, but put it down about half way through. Weird book.

My brother used to be a Russian Literature major.

It’s excellent, but I highly doubt you’ll grasp the weight of the conflicts in the novel without learning a lot about the 1860’s in Russia.

I liked The Death of Ivan Illych by Tolstoy

“The Idiot” was a bad book. No real experience with other Russian literature.
