Congratulations brainbuilder02 . Could you please share your STATS. My DS will be applying for BSMD program next year.
Is there a Facebook/ GroupMe for accepted hc students?
Has anyone received an email about Honors College accepted students events? My son was accepted to Honors College but has not received any emails from Rutgers (EA decision notification, honors decision, etc) since the email confirming that they received his application back in October. Checked spam folder and nothing. We even contacted admissions office and they don’t know what the issue is. We only know that decisions have come out from friends and from logging in to the portal. I just want to make sure we’re not missing any events.
@Fiji911 I have not heard anything about HC admitted students events. There are admitted student tours on friday which you can access through the Rutgers webpage. Admitted students open house is 4/4.
@Fiji911 students accepted to the SAS Honors Program (arts and sciences or business) are invited to Scholars Day on 3/6 or 4/10. If you think your son should have been notified, I would suggest contacting the school.
I was accepted to the honors college but haven’t gotten an email about scholarships yet. Have all these emails been sent out yet? I also tried logging in to the portal but I get an error message.
Is anyone else having this issue?
@njstudent2 My friend had the same issue as you, he just called the honors college and they told him the name of his scholarship and the amount. Just call the NB admissions department and they will forward you to the honors college, or give you their phone number.
Sooooooo have scholarships for the Honors College been sent out?
Is this the only merit-based aid that is released or do they give out more in the future???
Anyone admitted to honor college is guaranteed with some $ of scholarship, correct?
@whataboutcollege yes, at least $10k otherwise call financial aid and let them know and they will give you the money
DD got email today, logged into portal and found out she got HC scholarship of $19K/yr for SAS and SOE.
Tictamissus is incorrect for this year about the $10k in merit aid for HC kids. My son was accepted to HC for 3 schools and got $3,500. I called and asked about the $10k and was told “not this year.”
@Mom270 Interesting. Are you sure your son got accepted to the Honors College and not simply to the Honors Program(s)/Academy?
That would be helpful if whoever got accepted to the HC (or at least Honors Program/Academy) could report his/her stats (e.g. best SAT/ACT single-sitting score, subscores, superscore, unweighted GPA, class rank if known, gender, EC, etc) and amound of merit awarded by each school.
That would be also helpful if top students that did not get accepted into any Honors Program could report the same info so we can try to find a pattern.
NJEngineer Dad, yes Honors College for Schools of Engineering, Business and Arts and Sciences, got $3,500 for each of those schools,
NJ white male
ACT 34
W GPA 4.75, UW 4.0
Top decile (schools does not rank)
5 APs (5s on US history and Lang, 4 on BC Calculus, is getting As now in Physics C and Statistics)
ECs: Team captain, chamber orchestra, tutor, Nat Honor Society, summer job
@Mom270 OK. Well then they have changed the merit formula for students accepted in the HC. On the other hand they might have lowered the standardized score required to get in the HC. In the past I don’t think that a NJ white male would have gotten into the HC via SOE with a ACT 34. In any event, congratulations are in order, and I hope you have numerous good options to pick from by May 1st.
NJEngineerDad, interesting. 34 is the top 1 percentile for the ACT and he got 36 on the English and 35 on the math.
@Mom270 who did you call? Honors college or financial aid? The financial aid office is known for being incompetent. Also are you sure it didn’t say program or academy? These programs arent guaranteed scholarship and the financial aid office lady may have been confused
A girl last year got a 1300 sat got zero scholarship and then increased to $10k after saying she was honors college
I called Honors College first and they transferred me to Undergrad Admissions. She confirmed what our portal said yesterday, $3,500 for SOE, RBS and Arts and Sciences.
@Mom270 I would not lose all hope yet. Last year around July the merit miraculously increased for a lot of people in the honors college as I assume some people who got merit rejected Rutgers but that is quite unfortunate that one of the main benefits of the hc is no longer applicable
I guess you could try appealing or calling financial aid office as well, some people in the hc have successfully appealed in the past
