My S got into HC for RBS (NB) with 13K University Scholarship and 6K Henry Rutgers Scholarship (Total 19K) In-state. So we will end up spending ~13K/year (Housing+Meals)
Agree. This "may " be an outlier for HC. I am hearing “median” numbers 10-13k for HC, this year & last year. That’s it. My son got 10k from SoE and 13k from RBS both HC
and he got 3.5k for Honors Program, so yes HC offering 3.5K is indeed surprising.
My point is, HC merit awards are definitely trending downwards since last 2 years.
We were hoping atleast 18-19k (50% Cost of attendance) but that seems not to be the case
I don’t think they change the number of presidential scholarships that are handed out from year to year. In 2010 100 students who attended Rutgers had presidentials (or top 1-2%) and the same is for 2019. The only difference is more people apply to Rutgers so it becomes more competitive and the people who get presidential end up going to different schools. The majority of the presidential/super high scholarships are given to specialized schools (for example rutgers gave 1/4 of my grade presidential scholarships and 1/2 almost full rides with subpar sat scores). It’s just the majority of scholarships only go to these tech schools
Suppose if the presidential/super high merit aid students go to different school, Will the merit aid be given automatically to other student who are in top of the Line.?!
Is there any chance merit aid be revised depends on admitted student list?
@Nitmom yes and no. Some people got an extra $1k or so after the commiting day but it wasn’t a drastic change and most people didn’t get any change. I think they just use most of the money for next year’s students
Please can any one tell if any international student got into HC/HP, my son has a single sitting SAT 1540 unweighted 3.7 gpa, school won’t do weighted, he attended a magnet high school in Nj.
He applied to EMSOP and SOE got into both but no HC/HP. He is international student because we are not permanent residents of USA.
Your inputs will be helpful .
Thank you @Tictacmissus
I called admissions counselor she said pharmacy school has very competent applicant pool hence my son did not receive HC/HP invitation .
@Vanikiran looks like we both are in same boat. We are on work visa here in NJ. My son has 1540 SAT with 4.25 wGPA. Got in to COE but no honors and no scholarships.
He is interested in engineering and got in to Purdue Honors, UMD honors, NJIT, Rutgers, PennState and Virginia Tech. For now, Rutgers seems to be out of league. Got a good scholarship from NJIT though but not from others.
@NJdadEngineer does working visa allow your son in state tuition at Rutgers? If yes, it is probably still cheaper than the other out of states without scholarships.
This year NJ passed legislation allowing kids of work visa holders to be considered for in-state. The requirement is your kid must have completed at least three-year high schooling in NJ and must graduate high school from NJ. I am not sure if Rutgers will honor it from this academic year.
I am on a work visa and My son with SAT 1560, 4.0 unweighted got selected in the honors college. He also got 10K scholarship. The letter says they are considering him as out of state. I have to get clarified about in-state or out of state by calling admission office.
@Supportivefather absolutely! What I think is really important for students to understand is that education and life are not a series of checkboxes - it is a process of growing, changing, and learning. So, if you worked hard in high school, learned, grew, took risks, and even failed at something (and learned how to cope with failure), then you are a success. Those skills will take you farther in life than admission to a particular school, program, or honors college. You should be very proud of your son - no matter where he ends up, he will be a change-maker, and THAT is what this process is really about. My son will also be passing on Rutgers, but not because he didn’t get into the HC. He’s passing on it b/c there are other schools that better meet his needs and are more affordable. Best wishes to your son!!
@Supportivefather my son (35 ACT in a single sitting) also only applied to SAS. And, I know students who received HC invitation to Engineering and Business, but not SAS.
@NJdadEngineer, my son has exactly same stats , he got into Rutgers ,Purdue honors , UDel Honours , Pitt honours with 2k / yr international scholarship Njit with 24k/ yr. yet to hear from more schools. My son is interested in pharmacy and Rutgers will work cheaper and close to home .
@njdad05 at the time of applying To college we were still considered out of state, my friend’s daughter payed only instate tuition this semester after the bill passed on Jan 21st, provided if your son finished all his high school in Nj and you hold i140.
