@orm2020 please do! I don’t know much about the pharm school … just know that the hc decisions for pharm in particular are quite random and scholarships are usually quite small and don’t cover all 6 years
@orm2020 My son got in Honors college PharmD in 2018 with 19K per year. It covers the first 4 yrs as the last 2 are considered grad school. So you do have a chance to get a good scholarship!
Congratulations, is he in state or oos?.
@dragonfish : Thanks so much. Glad to hear there is a chance to be in Honors college and merit for 4 years. Either one will be encouraging
Since Pharmacy took only 8- 10 AP credits , which one your son chose ? I am debating between Biology , Chemistry, or Physics …
Does he plan to apply to any combined MBA/ MPH/ PhD / MD program ? Or is the PharmD very challenging to students ? I heard quite some students left the first 2 years… Any advice will be appreciated.
@Nitmom, he’s in state.
@orm2020, he AP out of physics and Calc. because he decided taking Chem would help him get ready for Org Chem. He’s thinking of applying to either MD or MBA. Currently he’s in his preprofessional year 2- so it’s pre med courses plus a couple electives, so far all is going ok. We’ll see how P1 goes next year, he’s expecting it to be much harder and it will be. He has heard of a handful who had dropped out but not too many.
@dragonfish : I see. Your experience helps me to think from another viewpoint. I just wonder if one can go into P1 one semester early , or taking P1 courses while fulfill PP2 courses since your son take off 8 credits. Is professional years curriculum rigid or flexible?
And honors college has separate requirements to fulfill too?
Where are most pre-med courses held , Busch or college ave?
MBA is far more relaxing than MD
They won’t let you do that. PharmD is a strict 6 year program. If someone moves up ahead it would mess up the entire schedule they have for you year to year especially since P4 is all rotations. Only thing you can do if you want is to take professional electives in PP1-2 so your P semesters can be slightly easier. That’s what my son’s doing. The only Honors college required course is the Forum, most other classes you can choose to take honors or not , you just need to meet the required number of honors credits. Most pre-med courses are at Busch.
@dragonfish : So glad Son got into Pharmacy honors college. Awaiting merit .
@orm2020, Congrats !! My daughter got in HC too.
All !!!
S17 accepted at Honors College at RBS - NB ( Rutgers Business School) , and SoE (School of Engineering - New Brunswick ) . SAS he did not get Honors college, instead received admission to Honors Program.
Very happy & excited !!! We are hoping for the financial awards that should follow in a week or two.
Just an FYI, we got the information today from the Rutgers Portal. We checked the Portal and the honors college ( 2 invites ) and 1 invite for the honors program were there.
Most certainly S17 will opt for the Honors College.
Wish all others the very best !!! We are super excited
@dragonfish : Is your daughter also going for pharmacy ? Thanks and now I understand the curriculum much better. Son have 14 AP courses and covered most pre-med except orgo. Plus some college credits that I am not sure if transferable for pharmacy. PP1-2 courses will be relatively light weighted
Is there research opportunities for honors students ? Or honors students go out for international study ??
Congrats to your daughter
@orm2020 My daughter just applied for SAS and SOE, not too interested in Pharm. There are quite a bit of research opportunities HC students are encouraged to apply for in the second semester for the summer, like Aresty. Some are very competitive and involve interviews. We feel that the professors really do look out for them and want to give hc students opportunities. Many other chances to get involved if you choose to, he’s an ambassador and alternative break leader and loves it. He does have friends doing a semester of study abroad, not mandatory though, he’s too busy this year and also doing research.
@dragonfish : Just wonder if only 5% of PharmD students are in HC, say around 10 students each year.
Does 2nd year students still get "honors / guaranteed " housing arrangements ?
I noticed P4 has 45 credits in advanced practice . So where do students got these rotational experience ? Just dont know anyone in pharmacy program yet
Is there a way to communicate with current PharmD students to understand more about the curriculum ? Want to be sure it is the right choice …
