My daughter has admitted student day visits coming up for these two schools, and we were wondering how these two business schools compared for others on here. I honestly don’t know much about Rutgers New Brunswick but have been researching it more because my daughter was offered a Presidential scholarship that covers the tuition there. She is not getting any merit at UMD. She is out-of-state for both schools. Any insight would be much appreciated.
For a business degree, that’s a lot of coin.
That’s $164K at least (sans tuition increases at UMD).
Few b schools - especially for accounting which I think is the specialty, are worth that kind of delta - and on a pure monetary basis, UMD is not vs. similarly respected Rutgers.
Now is Rutgers the right school / environment for you? That’s a different question.
Va Tech was less expensive - but you’d rather take that UMD plunge - so in theory you might make the same decision with Rutgers - and that’s what you need to decide after visiting both.
But from an ROI POV, UMD was likely not good in any situation relative to the others.
Not sure if this link will open properly but - it’s a generalist career report. You can contact the school for a more detailed one.
The biggest employers (not sorted by major) are Deloitte, Rutgers, KPMG, JP Morgan and E&Y.
Both Rutgers and UMD are in the “also” ranked (13-66) by US News.
Congrats on another fine offer - you’ve got a great student!!
We were giving Rutgers NB some serious consideration because of the full-tuition merit scholarship being offered. But my daughter has been having some medical issues on-and-off since September. She’s had some chronic issues in the past too. This seems to be driving her decision to want to go to a college close to home, and not go to Rutgers NB. I’m at a lost on how to help her manage her current medical issues if she’s so far away at college. I’ve been searching for advice on various forums, but I can’t seem to find any parents asking about similar issues. I wonder if the answer for us is to just forgo the scholarship and send her to UMD, which will $160K in tuition a year but closer to home. If anyone has any similar experience and advice, it would be much appreciated.
