<p>I’m looking for state colleges that are very good for English with more affordable tuition (about 35,000 or less) than some like UMich and UVa. I’m in-state for Pitt and can’t find any other Pennsylvania publics that are better for English, and out of state I was thinking about Indiana as another safety and Wisconsin-Madison and UNC as high targets or reaches. However, I’m wondering if I should use Rutgers as a safety instead of Indiana Bloomington because I can get a full ride at Rutgers and I have heard it is good for English and seems like it has a bit less of a “party school” atmosphere than Indiana.</p>

<p>RU is no less a party school than IU. It’s where other NJ college kids go to party on weekendd. Quality is about even. I think IU offers more in campus quality, town quality and having a national student body. It also gives good merit aid for high stat kids.</p>
<p>Really? I always heard Rutgers was seen as a much better state school.</p>
<p>For undergrad it doesn’t matter; all of the schools you’ve mentioned, and Penn State which you did not mention, offer a solid English major.</p>
<p>That’s really surprising to hear with Penn State. When I visited there, very few kids were doing English, so I didn’t think the program was especially strong.</p>
<p>All I have to say is Little 5. People come in from other states who don’t attend IU just for this party.</p>
